Strange I did not get a survey form regarding customer service. In every other dealing I have had with M/B I have had a survey form. I wonder why ?????
These surveys are so much bull. My Audi survey was the best! My sales rep had all these past surveys on his desk. If you said anything negative about them it was passed around for all to see. The rep explained it's best if you give a glowing response to their service or else the next time you come in for service watch out because we all know what you said about us!!! Derek

So you mean that nothing replaced or repaired yet?

Yes.. nothing has happened yet.. But i think that they have started to thinking about this, after i told them that other people also hear the same noise... I have informed the central offices in my country (Athens) and i am expecting an answer from them. Also as i know there is a replacement part here already but they also wait for instructions if they replace rack&pinion or not...
After almost one month with no significant progress.. they told me this (from local dealer)..
"Sir, your problem is known to the centrals but they informed us that it won't be solved by replacement of rack & pinion because the sound is not produced from the part itself. They are working on it and as soon as we have anything new you will be informed. Till then be sure that its not a matter of safety and of course you won't have any problem with this even after the end of guarantee period because its has been recorded earlier..."
This means that we are waiting for technical bulletin or something...
I think there isn't a modification for the impaired component now
like you said, this is a common question.
so you guys need more patient for the modifiction!
good luck!
I have this kind of noise also, in fact I can feel it ticking when I hold the steering wheel. It happens mostly when the engine is cold or from cold to warm, and the problems go away after I switch off the car and start again, that's why when I was at the dealership I can't show the problme/noise to the mechanic at all. ...
In the morning when I first start the car, it would chok and the rpm point flickers between 700rpm and 1000 rpm and it sounds like the car is going to stall or something , but so far it never stall but just choking, however, when I put it in D gear this flicking pointer thing goes away while the cracking noise from the steering sometimes being heard again not often and can't repeat at dealer....so frastruting....

As for the steering noise, if its the same problem with mine, you can hear this noise even with the engine off, but it needs much more force to turn the steering wheel...

today I feel the ticking again coming from the steering wheel even when driving straight.....I don't know what to do now, I told the car back twice and at the dealership the car performed like a champ, somehow just can't simulate the same issues....oh well...I just hope that when the cold weather comes these situations happen more often to a point that they can identify the problem...
