Yeah, that was the point I was making above; the hood insulation is probably required in Germany to protect people OUTSIDE of the car from unnecessary noise Lärmschützgebiet = (environmental) noise protection area.
Having the hood pad may make the cabin even noisier.
So going for the firewall and floorboards seems like the right idea.
As I've stated before, the hood insulation isn't much quieter but it is a bit better and my installation is there to help keep the splash-ups from collecting in the inner channels of the hood.
So far the marks and stains on the mylar show that it's doing it's job.
The MB insulator is a diesel only add-on and we don't have B diesels...... but they stock the hood insulator. Very strange indeed !!

My B180CDI is the worst car I have owned in thirty years. The engine is crude, noisey and unbalanced.
I fitted the Mercedes hood insulation (€100.00) and also added my own insulation to all bare exposed metal to the side of the engine - the windscreen washer reservoir clips out quite easily to do this on one side.
There has been a decernable reduction in perceived noise internally and externally.
This nonsence about the hood insulation being a taxi option is pure buzzcock. It is just another example of the cynical attitude of Mercedes to its customers at this lower price point - give them as little as possible as standard and charge them extra for essential items.
Surely you test drove before buying?? And if the B is the worst car you have driven the others must have been beauts.

While we here in CAN only get the gas models, I find the B to be one of my favourite cars of all time.
Almost an ideal real world balance between luxury, handling, comfort, utility and fuel consumption.
Also, positive proof that a large displacement engine is unnecessary for a calm, low rev, serene, and sustainable 100-140 km/h motoring. This little Benz goes down the road almost as quietly if not a match for my X3. The X3 may have smoother revving engine and more power reserve (too much really) but at buck or buck twenty, the Benz is just as calm but achieving 6.1/l, the Bimmer is lucky to break 8.7/l hwy. City? Foggetabowdit! Although it's city and hwy is quite reasonable really for a 4000lb.+ AWD 6 cyl. vehicle that goes like a muscle car on demand.
