I have no choice than to put snow tires in the winter instead of using the low profile 17" tire and 10 spokes wheel that come with the Sport Package option.
Anyone know how much the factory steel rim cost, thinking of using 16" wheel as it is easy to fit it with snow tire than on a 17" rim.
btw Can any C-Class wheel fit B-Class? I know the A-Class and B-Class wheel are interchangabe but we don't have A-Class in Canada. So if any C-Class wheel can fit then will go after used C-Class wheel instead of the ugly steel wheel. Just a thought.
Winter is 4-5 months off so have time to source out the best deal.
Thanks
Philip
dealership here in Ontario informed me about $120 per steel rim. re the offset, best I can figure out is that C class or many others such as E etc, have a standard offset of about 35 mm whereas the B class has about 45 mm offset. I assume a 1 cm spacer can take care of the difference.
I am not prepare to use spacer to accomodate the difference in offset, just me, not a fan of spacer for safety reasons.
C, CLK and E class has 7-7.5" standard width rims. B class is 6" standard width. A class uses 6"width as well. Not sure if there is enough room in the wheel well for turning clearance either.
We finally get the white stuff in GTA this week. Need to get prepare for some wet. slippery and icy winter driving in the next while.
Couple of things I found out after looking for alternative solution to mount winter tires with recycle rims from other MB models. I am still not ready to spend 2.8K for a set of B class winter tires + alloys package offer by the dealer.
B class used M14 size lugs, thus trying to mount a set of C coupe sport version rims turns out to be troublesome and not possible. C coupe used M12 lugs instead of M14. Original B class lug is too short to mount the rims, so need to use the longer M14 lugs from the S class. However, the holes in the rims are just a bit too small to let the non thread part of the S class M14 lug to go through the hole for mounting. Thus nothing works as plan.
Being desperate and having a set of 98 CLK 7 holes 16" 7J ET37 rim available, we try this set out and suprisingly the original B M14 lug can be used to mount the rims. No interference for the front and rear brake components. Mounted a set of Dunlop Graspic winter tire 205/55/16 onto the CLK rims and the B is equipped for the winter months ahead.
It does not look as great as the 10 spokes sport rim but there is no way the 17" low profile sport package tires can survive the winter without us getting in and out of the ditch frequently. This is not an eye catching setup, but 98 CLK 7 holes style rim still somehow manages to give a modern feel to the set. It is definitely better than using steel rim from MB which is costing around $100 a piece plus wheel cover.
We just have to bear with a downgraded look for practicality in the next few months. If you don't mind spending the money, you will not be interested in this approach.
Got some images of the winter wheels for your viewing.

Great rubber and nice wheels santiago0000000000. Now lets see a close-up pic of the inside corner of your hood (bonnet) please and the approx. build date of your B.
I see that tire rack is still offering your steel painted wheels for 75 $. Are you satisfied and are you sure that they are a perfect fit for our B200?

Yes, I'm satisfied. They look sportier than the stock alloy rims but the finish is slightly inferiour. You can see a few areas where there was overspray but you really have to be close to notice and for a winter set of wheels, not an issue at all.
They are a perfect fit.
EDIT: JMen - I should also specify these are not steel painted wheels. These are 1 piece cast aluminum.
Derek - I forgot to answer your question. I checked the hood. It's the older style and it's a Feb 2007 fabrication.

Cheers, Derek

I’m on the verge of ordering the santiago0000000000 Sports Edition F7 cast aluminium wheels ( 300$ ) with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 ( 396 $ ) for a total of 1 079 $ which includes taxes, shipping, duty, fries, and a coke delivered to Montreal from South Bend Indiana. I’m amazed that the Michelins are so much cheaper than here, let alone the mags. Still, I don’t know why I’m somewhat uneasy about ordering tires from an online outfit, even if it’s the famous Tire Rack.
Derek, regarding your offer to santiago0000000000 and myself for some radical surgery on our hoods, are you telling us that you don’t make the holes in the hood with a laser or at least a Wii controller ? And is this work covered under Medicare ? I think I’m still from Missouri on this one.
