My wife has a Canadian B200 that is now our weekend family car and would like to have a trailer hitch installed. I've done google searches and tried a trailer hitch company here in Montreal but I have found nothing.
Anyone have or know of a trailer hitch that can be installed on the B200?
Same problem if you're trying to find a flat bar roof rack for the B class in Canada. I gave' Thule' their own #'s for the B class rack from a UK site, and they still would not order it for me. To most in North America, this car doesn't exist, and I don't want a bike roof rack from the dealer. The dealers bike rack is too high and also too narrow for carrying what I want, so a made my own. Cheers, Derek

Before ordering my B-200 Turbo 2008, The Dealer loaned me a 2007 because I found one place where they told me that they needed to see under the car before telling me yes or no. Bédard Trailer in Lachine confirmed that yes, they can install a hitch but it will be more expensive as there is more work involved (Probably around $450). Their tel. # is 514 637-6242 and please ask for the owner as this is a small place.
Please keep in mind that you should not carry any heavy load. Mine is for my two bikes. Hoping that I am helping you and please let me know if you get it done and if this is what you were looking for.
Claude
Claude - that is precisely what I'm looking for. I want to carry bikes. Do you know how it is attached. I have a BMW E46 and the only system available in North America is an aftermarket one that requires drilling holes in the trunk floor. Is this system similar?
Also, by light duty I'm assuming you mean a Class 1 trailer hitch with a tongue weight limit of 200 lbs? That should be plenty for a bike rack and up to 4 bikes.
The issue with these styles of tow hitches is that they appear to look under the rear bumper cover with a swan-neck style hitch. My intended use is to remove the tow ball and plug in the bike rack but I don't think that can be done with this style.
MB and DiVanci is offering a promotion for a brief period of time in Canada. Check with your dealer for details. I believe it ends at end of Sept 2007.
The conditions are
(1) Purchase a new B class between the specific period of time
(2) Order an internal bike rack accessory at the same time
(3) You have a choice of a free DaVinci hybrid or mountain bike
(4) Offer good in GTA Ontario, but it seems to be country wise
We just got our bike last week and its good value. The internal bike rack is around $500, DaVinci bike retails around $450(hybrid) and $650(mountain). If you have a need for a bike, you got both for the price of one.
Make sure that the engine cooling doesn't need to be upgraded.
My B180CDI will need a new (bigger) engine cooler when retrofitted with a hitch.
Total costs will go over 1000 Euro's, so I will carry my bike's on the roof.
If you haven't already bought your roof racks I would recommend that you consider trying a rear door rack as an alternative. They are available as an expensive Mercedes accessory or at well under half the price you can get one made by THULE.
They can carry up to 4 bikes.
I have used mine abroad at quite high speeds without a problem. This holiday with the rack on the back (with a wheelchair ,which causes some drag due to the abric and the solid sides, and a wheeled walker) and achieved 42 mpg over a 200 + mile journey most of which was at "around" (nod nod) the motorway speed limit of 70 mph.
You get less drag, more car stability (ie no body roll) aned far easier loading with a rear rack. It is possible to open the boot door with the rack & bikes fitted but you will need someone to hold the boot up as the hydraulic units will not support the weirht of the bikes.

Thanks for the tip. But I already bought the original MB (By Thule) roofcarrier bars. I needed them for my skiing trips this year.
I would like to keep my ski's and my wife's in the car but that's not possible. So I also keep my ski's on the roof, and I use them to transport wood.
The MB carriers are quit nice and well built. I really like the locking feature.
But they are expensive...

If you look at the gallery posting, You can see what I did to fit the bikes and the roof rack for the kayaks. It's a very simple and clean bike installation.
