HI, I am new to this forum. My brother & his friend has placed an order for the B170 here in Singapore. The B class was launched here about a year ago. We were told that the B class does not come with the cover.
I would like to know whether the models in rest of the world comes with the cover . Or is it sold without the nice cover. The cover is black and has the benz logo on the top.
Will appreciate if someone could post a photo of the engine top with the bonnet open. (I need to figure out how to post images soon).
You mean the sound cover on the inside of the bonnet ?
No, the B is sold without.
But, also good news. The cover is available as a taxi-option (just like a fullsized spare-tyre) and can be ordered and fitted by your dealer. In the Netherlands it should cost around 100 Euro's I think.
The B is sold without because the cover only helps to reduce the noise outside the car. The car does not become more silent inside. That is why it's a taxi-option, taxi's tend to wait before hotels etc. with a running engine.
Hi Dennis (NL), Well that's great news about the bonnet insulator being an option somewhere in this big world of MB. Now we have to get a part number for it, because some of us would like to order it to help protect against water splashups. Most of us will be very willing and able to install this part ourselves. Please check B bonnet rusting post in this forum. My dealer will probably want me to show proof that my B200 is "only "used for taxi service. Cheers, Derek

Thanks for the part #'s,that should help, and the taxi comment was a joke, but the water splashup problem is real ! Come to Quebec, we have potholes that can eat B class cars for lunch and sometimes do !! Water was trapped in my bonnet, maybe from rain hitting the front grill at high speed or from splashing. The water stains on the interior of our bonnets attest to the fact that something is splashing up and staying trapped in the front low areas of the bonnet due to no drainage. I solved the problem as the bonnet posting explained. Cheers, Derek
A few pics for your consideration. The first two (from a B200 Turbo) show that the black engine cover with the white/silver 3-pointed star logo on top.
The cover for which I posted the partnumbers goes is a thick mat that clips on the inside of the bonnet. I've never heard of an aftermarket cover that goes on top of the engine.
I think that's engine-type related, and that only the turbo has a cover on top. My diesel has no cover on top and looks like your lowest picture.
