Question Should I worry about small dent under the front black backing under the front bumper

I must have parked too deep into a curb that caused the dent. I shouldn't say it is under the bumper. The part that got the dent is a little further from the bumper. The bumper is body colored. The part I am talking about is the black underneath backing that is hard plastic. If you look pass the colored bumper, there are two vent-shaped object that locates close to the middle, one on each side. There are two pieces of the "vent" on one side got dented. These vented shaped object hangs a bit lower than the bumper. The bumper isn't scratched.

Do you understand what I am talking about? Look under your bumper and try to get what I mean. Should I worry about it and get it fixed?

I don't have a cam so can't take pic.

Not quite sure where you mean, have taken photo of under mine maybe you can guide us to the position from that.
Top left of the photo is the rear most part of the front bumper and below that is the under engine/sump plastic shield.
Bottom right is one of the grooved plastic ("protection ???") pieces that seem to be the lowest part of the car at the front.

Thanks for the pic. The pic showed part of the "vent" I was talking about. Looks like yours is damaged too. Mine is one the left side. Should I be worry about it? What is directly above it? I see there is a bolt very close to it.

Since you are getting a new B, can you ask your dealer about it? Is it replacable? How much would it be?

Personally, if it is the part that you have arrowed, I would not worry about it both of mine are quite badly scored & damaged. It looks to me as if this is some form of protector for the underside plastic engine bay cover as it is the lowest part on the underside of the car. The speed humps cause this trouble in the UK or parking end on to a kerb. I certainly would not replace it until it is very well worn i.e. far worse than mine. Won't be seeing the dealer to pick up the new car for just over a month but if I remember & am able to see someone in the workshop I will try & see if they know what this part is for.
You could try ringing the parts dept and ask them, mine are very helpful, When explaining it I would call it a grooved plastic rather than a vent as it does appear to be solid. Keep the forum notified if you hear any more about it.

Don't know what variant of the B you have got but I would imagine that the Sports model would be more prone to this damage as it has lower suspension. This was another reason for me going for the standard spec car as we have gone speed hump crazy over here and it is almost impossible not to ground on some of them even at walking pace.

Mine is a non-turbo, non sport package, base model B200. The damage is on the "grooved plastic/vent" as shown on the arrow. I didn't even notice it got damaged until I heard some noise as I park. I just worry about the sandwich concept thing about the engine slides down or something in a frontal crash.

I think that you shouldn't worry about this damage. there are such poor roads in my country that already I had to replace the engine housing. the shown element in a photo looks considerably worse in my car

I took a second good look at it today. It doesn't look to be as serious and bad as I first look at it. It is just a little dent at the surface.. but the sound when it got hit was scary. I just wonder what is inside it? Why can't it be flat? There is a bolt directly behind it.

From that picture it would appear that the bolt in question is just holding the groved plastic bush / buffer on. I still think it can only be some form of protection for the underside.

P.S. Thats a mighty long looking black drive shaft I didn't realise that the diff/final drive was so far off centre. I wonder if it is supported in a bearing in that domed silver housing in the lower centre of the picture ??

Does any one know if the subframes are galvanised on the B ? ( they used to be on the Scenic I used to have)

From the pic, it seems that one of the 2 grooved plastic "covers" has also received similar 'damage'. Take a look at the one red-arrowed.
