I sucked the oil out on the weekend and replaced it with 0W40 at a little over 10,000 km. The filter was dead easy, and clean too, compared to a vertically-mounted spin-on. 15 minute job tops.
Are the people with new Bs waiting until the car tells them it needs a service to go to the dealer for Service B (i.e. 20,000 km, as the car defaults to)? I will, but my dealer was trying to get me to come in when it has only 15,000 km on it. I know they reset the meter to 15K intervals once they get their hands on them, but I think I'll go by the car, thanks, and change the oil at 7500 once wer're into the 15,000 cycle.
Do mine consider new at about 10,100 km? 29 days due to service B. I think I will wait til 15,000 km. Do you think it is safe? Read my posting in Service A thread.
Why not change your own oil and filter right now? The only reason for a service after a year is the oil. Keep the receipts to show the dealer when you go in with the display at -150 days or whatever.
To be 100% safe with warranty - no questions asked - the dealer should do the service in 28 days....
Mike,
Thanks for the feedback on your easy oil change.
Your posting should encourage other B's to do the same and surly stretch the life of our engines at little cost and effort.
I used my PELA 6000 Oil Extractor for the first time today. I purchased a 5 litre jug of Mobile 1 for $ 38.00 at Walmart ( Mobile 1 is even cheaper if you wait for a special ) and the Pela worked as advertised. It sucked all 5 litres out, but I did have to manually pump the vacuum about 10 strokes after every litre of oil to maintain a good flow of oil. It is certainly a quick and easy way to change the oil without a mess and without jacking the car etc.
I also got the PELA on sale at Binnacle.com - Your complete online marine store
You could of course easily change the filter yourself too if you want to; however, I intend to use this in between scheduled oil changes which include the filter. Based on this one time experience, I give the PELA 4 stars out of 5. ( It would have to do all the work itself to get 5 stars.)
Hi BeeClass
I had my brother pick up a Pela 6000 at the boat show this spring and while I have not used it on the B I was forced to use it on my other car. I received a certificate from Canadian Tire for a complete synthetic oil change at x-mas. After the rains stopped I noticed a huge oil slick on my driveway, I quickly checked the oil to make sure I still had some in the sump. The car had been overfilled and I sucked out two liters of oil to get the level normal. Hopefully there is no damage as I know Canadian would not take responsibility and it would be impossible to prove a month later.
I sucked out all the oil ( just to see how much it would suck out)and found the Pela to work cleanly ,but a little slow. I also would recommend it to anyone. 4 Stars out of 5 seems right.
