After a little bit more than 6500 km on my car since the last oil change (done in March 08), I checked the level last week-end. I found the oil level to be right to the top, but it seams a bit dark, actually REALLY dark. So I called my dealership, and they told me they put Quaker synthetic oil in it ...
I know that Derek was mentioning about the quality of the oil ... I feel this one is not as good as the one they provided the car with at the factory. When I had my first oil change at 15 000km it was still pretty clear ....
The technical adviser at my dealership told me I could swing by at any time to check if the oil is still good ... I'm wondering if that's a waist of my time
what weight/grade of oil does the b200 turbo manual specify?
how many litres?
I am planing to do my own oil changes when I purchase my turbo, most likey an 06 and prob out of warranty or close to the expiry.
****update****
does anyone know if the b200t uses the MB 229.3 or MB 229.5 oil specification?
I would think the MB 229.5 long interval would be a safe choice (castrol 0w30, or Mobil1 0W40)
I already use castrol 0w30 in my nissan vq35 and its a great oil and I only change it once a year or about 10000km so I think I'm going to use it in the b200t and stick with the OEM filters.
Keith, was that original B also a diesel? I am just wondering if anyone has first hand experience with this warning in the B 200.
I think I can inadvertendly shed a bit more light on that. I did an oil change in the fall, about 8k km ago and left the oil level purposely about 1/2 l or even a bit more low thinking that the new engine won't consume any signficant oil..... well, was I in for a suprise. When I checked the oil level yesterday, the oil did not register on the dipstick I added 1/2 l from a left over bottle which brought the level up exactly to the 'bottom' of the dip stick - ie 1 l low. Soooo, the oil level was 1.5 l down and the warning light did not ever come on. the warning routinely comes on for doors ajar, tire pressures not even, trunk up etc etc
I'm changing oil tomorrow and am torn between 5/30 and 10/40 ..... suggestions anyone? Probably doesn't matter... but it will be hot the next couple of months at least.... That's what I liked about more frequent oil changes... one in the fall and one in spring with 10/40 and 20/50 respectively

I don't think the B 200 (gas / petrol ) has an oil level light but just uses the tried and true pressure sensor. You did not mention what grade/weight of oil you used last time maybe it was to light???? Some engine's just use oil but keep a close watch for the next while, remember when you checked the oil level every gas fill??
My local dealer's mechanic recommends 5w/40 and the dealer uses Quaker State for oil changes. I am due for a change (aren't we all ) and for the extra cost will use Mobil 0w/40. This has the higher MB specification as well as being top rated by several reports including the Oil Bible in it's category. The 0W part will give good low temperature protection as well as better gas mileage, the 40 weight will give excellent high speed / temperature protection.
the oil level was 1.5 l down and the warning light did not ever come on.
The low oil pressure light only comes on if the oil pump is sucking air, at which point you are already damaging the engine. So that it wasn't on in your car is a good thing.
However, this definitively proves that the car does not have what the C-class does, namely an oil level sensor that reports to the LED screen.
So 1.5 L in 8000 km, that's a little under 0.2 L/100 km, which is not really high but is a little surprising. I changed my B's oil at 10,000 km and after that distance it had used _maybe_ 0.1 or 0.2 L, if anything.
Monitor the oil use and if it stays at that level or goes even higher, be sure to report it to your dealer.
I would recommend a wide multigrade like 0W40 - easy flowing on startup and quite thick when hot.
Well, I think I understand why my oil was so low. When MB quotes the oil capacity as 5 litres, I understood that to mean to the 'full' mark. Finishing the oil change just now, I filled with 5 literes and that only took it to the half way mark of the dip stick. At the last fill I only put in 4.5 litres so that I just barely got back the minimum mark.... likely I was on a bit of a slope so it showed as more. In short, I used a more reasonable 1/2 litre in the 8k km of driving. Oh, by the way, I filled with Castrol 5/40, seems the best weight combination to me.... couldn't find any Mobil 5/40 .... I'm certain they''re pretty much the same for my kind of use
