Has anyone installed the ipod kit themselves? The dealer wanted about $1,000.00 CAD all together for the kit and labour - which I politely declined. I've searched and found some basic instructions on installing for the C-class, but I haven't found a single thing for the B-class. I'm wondering how different if would be. I guess not a lot of people are into the idea of hacking into the electronics on their new car - which is certainly understandable.
Anyone know of a site that outlines the instructions for the B-class or have any general been there, done that tips?
Jeff there is a very informative write up of this ,by B200Turbo, with a link in the " B200 reverse lights removal " thread it should give you all the info you need. If you would rather not remove dash parts / trim on your car you could always use the RF sender method (not sure if they are legal in Canada though)
Under the headline of "B200 reverse lights removal" wasn't where I was expecting to find something about ipods to be honest.
Looks like a good write up - but I'm still surprised by how much work is involved. I have no idea why this couldn't have been a factory option. It all seems like an excuse for the dealer to make money. Had this been a factory option I'm sure it would have been far simpler and cheaper.
I have an FM transmitter and it's beyond useless. Where I live I can't find a single frequency that doesn't have at least some "noise".
Sometimes the threads go off track a bit as often something is just mentioned in passing that may not be felt to warrant a new thread.
Sorry to hear your FM transmitter does not work well, mine is only a cheapie but works perfectly in the UK. (they have only recently become legal here).
Looks like the cable fitting is going to be the only option for you, because if you just have the standard radio/cd (ie not the one with the cd autochanger) you cannot even play an MP3 CD. Apparently, however, the autochanger unit does.
Hi even if you will installed the kit by yourself you still have to go to the dealer have to use software to initialize to recognize ipod piece. So you can see the display of the song on the dashboard.
My dealer offer it to me in London Ontario for 300 Cad plus tax labour included before I got our car. I do not use IPod so I declined. I installed aux input by myself when buying proper tools and harness from the dealer they told this part does not fit your car but it did and they got it for 35 Cad plus tax and tools cost 20 Cad. That is another cheaper solution but you will not see song names on the mb dashboard.
1000 Cad is outrages rippoff it cannot take more than an hour to do that.
Contact other dealers. Good luck
