If you have to drive on the 20 in Montreal, you spend your time dodging potholes and hobby-horsing over the frost heaves and the mileage really suffers. Plus, turning right on a red is illegal (morons) and the lights are seemingly interminable on red. I'll bet my mileage is significantly worse than cruising along the Upper Levels billiard no no no highway (I lived in West Van for years and years).
Last fill: the onboard computer revealed a 7.2 L/100 km result, and the reality was less flattering: 7.83. The previous time it was a spread of about 0.5 L (with the OBC being too low).
I do wonder if this thing can be adjusted, because such ridiculous optimism is annoying.
I got 6.0 on the way home from work last night, including a few errands in town, which in reality is 6.5, still good!
I really envy your stats, Mike. After a month and a half of ownership, and diligently recording all consumption and travel data, I come up with 10.19 l/100 kms. actual calculation, while the board computer shows an average of 9.64 l/100 kms. I do realize that at 2500 kms (roughly) my engine has just barely been broken in.
I hope to see better consumption figures as I drive the car more. Also I have to take into account the awful traffic in and around Richmond and Vancouver. Lots of short trips as well.
Driving style: mild. No jack rabbit starts, and when I can, I try to baby the acceleration and anticipate traffic flow and red lights.
Above data is all city driving.
So far, from my last fill up two days ago, I am averaging my best stats so far at 8.5 l./100 kms.
I drive in pretty easy conditions: the local highway has many stoplights but the speed limit is 90 and that's usually how fast I drive. The urban traffic here is not stop-and-go, but a little more "fluide" as the French say on the Bd Périphérique
If I could ever get a run at a steady 90 km/h for a full tank, I think Imight be able to get it under 6 L/100 km (~5.5 on the OBC).
In Vancouver area traffic, you should shoot for under 9 L/100 km when the car is broken in and with some care when driving.
Holy smokes, I have never had this car at an 88 km/h average! That 5.5 is really about 6.0, but it's still pretty damned decent for a bus like the B 200! Congrats, Derek.
You stop the B, you go into town and gas up and have a snack, you drive through town, you like the #'s, you dig out the camera and cry because those weren't the real #'s. The average was 91 kph.
Mike and I have the special German fine tuning that you all seek.
Mobil 1 doesn't hurt either.
We can share this top secret info but it will cost you.
Bill has warned me about posting these #'s and I expect MB will attempt to alter my B's fine-tuning.
Yes Keith, I use both hands to stabilize the camera and steer with my knees it's not as exciting as Mikes 360's but I try.
Mike shall we share our secrets???
Cheers, Derek
