well, there you have it,one rubber bush fitted, free of course..
my guess is, that the non fitting of the rubber bush is a cock up on Mr Benz's part, the pin that the bush sits on is there, so somewhere along the line someone has misread the building manual, and ever since they do not fit the part.....
Karl Benz would turn in his grave.........................................
I checked the rear seat after reading this topic and the rubber bush was missing (Australian spec B200T). I called the dealer and had a new one supplied and installed under warranty within the week. Interesting that it is missing on all vehicles...
Wow, and I thought that I was the only one who would notice and question this type of little problem !
At my request, my dealer installed the missing rubber bushing free of charge. It was then that I realised why the bushing is not installed at the factory. It’s because the seat is too hard to lift up with two bushings holding it down. I removed the second rubber since it is entirely unnecessary. Of course I would be willing to sell it to anyone say for 1 000 $.
Just tried mine again with & without the bung (I bought mine).
1) Without, when you push down on the seat it does flex fractionally & if you bounce up and down on the seat you can hear more of a bang as the metal seat base floors. It looks awful having the hole and seeing the seat innards.
2) With, the seat base feels firmer but it does make the seat harder to lift up.
3) As it was probably found to make the seat harder to lift up they probably decided somewhere along the line not to fit it any more (it,s not listed as a part that's fitted in the parts manual aparantely).
4) The fix, I have cut down, slightly, the inner rubber flanges (2 each side of the bung) and the seat now feels firmer, looks better, and is able to be lifted up with relative ease.
It's only a small thing but without it, I feel, the quality of the car is lowered.
It still isn't fitted on the 07/08 models so no one at M/B is listening to customer feedback.
Well, we certainly have discussed this missing bushing at length quite a while ago. I had mentioned that without the bushing, the seat raises easily, but with it, it sticks. You now have to raise the seat from the middle or the seat torques too much and you can't raise it.
When complaining about it missing, the dealer installed it for free.
Leaving it out was the quick MB fix. At least that was my opinion a long time ago.(and still is)
Keith, where were we discussing this missing bushing before? I can't find our previous talk. I was also kidding you about if your new 2nd B also had the missing rubber plug. Any ideas where that posting went??? It probably was when you received your 2nd B.
As we post, I think we(read myself) sometimes get off topic topic. Oh well ....
