Hello, Greetings from an old time forum member!

I am having issues with my Command.I do have the Harmon Kardon stereo. My navigation works but my radio has no sound and radio stations frequency does not appear on the screen nor can I play any CDs or PCMCIA Slot. Also my telephone and Voice Command do not work at all. I can use the toggle switch joystick to move around command but it doesnt let me use the Telephone or play anything from radio or disks.

I tried resetting holding down the eject button to restart unit but still same issue persists.

I scanned the car and it gives me the code D103 MOST Component Position 3 Reports Open Ring.

I took out the front Command Unit and could see the red light coming from the back of the stereo as well as the fibre optic cable.

Scanner could not communicate with neither my tuner or my voice telephone module.

I also opened the back cover for the harman Kardon amplifier and voice control unit and unplugged the fibre optic cable and no light could be seen from the cable.

Any ideas before I start losing hair? I will promise to keep you guys updated on this issue because I know many have had similar issues.

Plainly, a component in the fiber optic loop has failed, and is opening the loop.

First, check all of your fuses for components on the loop.

Then, get a pair of MOST fiber bypass couplers (they are cheap - around $2.00 each, even from the dealership) and follow the procedures at Mercedes Benz No Audio or No Sound Troubleshooter and Repair

If you locate the bad component, they are cheaper to repair than to replace. Use the site in the prior link, or try M & B Specialist

Update

I tested using the fibre optic coupler on the voice command module, Amplifier Audio gateway and also the headunit in the front but no luck.

Am I missing something? Is there another fibre optic plug or unit I should be checking in the system?

Now my question is when you use the coupling on the Audio Gateway does it not deactivate the sound and radio?

Also my headunit will not play any cds or work with the media card reader either. It will load the CD and card but not play any tracks or sound.

My telephone also does not work.

Finally had the issue resolved. I took the amplifier out of the truck and opened it up. Did some detailed investigating and it had carbon and moisture damage on the board. I cleaned it with contact cleaner and soft brushes. Put it back together and tried to use it again but no luck.

Luckily I found a used amplifier from another car at the auto wrecker and put it in and everything came back to normal and sounds fantastic.

Ok, i've same issue as you.. but sometimes my sounds and everything is working ! one difference.. i see the red light from fiber optic just some times.. not every time.. from front Cd dvd changer and from this Harkman kardon amplifier...

Do you have any advice for me??

It is plainly an intermittent failure within the fiber optic loop - either a poorly seated connector, or a failing component. Konigstiger has already given you the troubleshooting steps above. They are also linked to in the Audio section of our DIY & FAQs. If you cannot do the repair yourself, there are repair shops shown there as well.

ordered an bypass loop.. but i comes from china a lil waiting then.. could not find somewhere else.. every ebay or amazon one couldnt deliver on belgium or france..

this morning it worked like 3 min.. then it stopped and each time i tried to change radio station or musics from pcmia i could hear "clack clack" from speakers.. so i dont really know if it's a failure fiber optic ... :/ whatever just in case it's not about fiber optic i'm already searching for something else, and i thought about the HDD from headunit, failure boot .. ? can it be this ? or the whole command system would not work if it was it ?
