i am interested in one particular w221, 2006, s500 which has warning light (l think it is "non-functioning parking brake) for parking brake constantly on, however the brake operates normally. it is just the light which is ON and it supposed to be OFF.
what is the problem? maybe just some switch or can it be something more sophisticated like an electronic module or so?
The attachment is from the North American MY '07, which corresponds to your European '06. The manual indicates that after a manual release of the electric parking brake using the tool and access in the gas filler area has occurred, a light will illuminate. While I speculate, this is a possible cause of the warning you see.
While that may be the cause, unfortunately, I do not have the solution.
many thanks. interesting. that is a good example of what I am afraid of in these cars. they more resemble a space ship than a car and I am afraid that with a 10 years old w221 I will get a lot of similar headaches.
See attachments for system details. Definitive diagnose, may be best to pull fault codes. Quick first step, disconnect switch for several minutes then reconnect.
many thanks for your answer and the attached files. just to be clear; I am thinking about buying the car, so I do not own it (yet). because i own old good classical w140 (OBDI) I even do not have Star diagnostic system, because I just do not need it.
