Post 2010 S550 vs 2014 E Class

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to this forum, but would like to be a consistent member here on Benz World! I've been on the search for a 2010 S550, I have been doing all sorts of research pros/cons etc. and have heard nothing but amazing personal consumer reviews from different owners. As I've had my heart set on the S, I just seen pictures of the new 2014 E class, the new lights the new front end is almost hard to not pass up...I'm not sure if I should just be go with what I've been wanting and spend 5 years with an S or just go with what's newer and be patient until the new E comes out... A preowned 2010 S would basically be the same of getting a the new E... I'm not making any big decisions now...but I would definitely want some insight on what you S class owners think about that decision?

I have never driven an S class FYI, I have an 06 CLS500 as my daily driver payed off...I'm looking for my new future toy.. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated!

there is no comparison. an E-class, while a very nice car, does not offer the luxury, ride, presence, etc of an S class. Just look at the dash and door panels on the E-class...hard plastic like a c-class.

If you've always wanted the S, you will think "what if" if you get the E and will likely want to trade soon after purchase.

Yeah your right, the craftsman ship of the S does not compare to the E what so ever...Thanks Oliver

Styling wise W212 is for me but let's not forget S Class is the flagship to the MB so basically get the S if you like more comfortable and high end car
A few pros on behalf of W212 , being updated model it will have HUD, 360 view camera and these are not options on W221s until new flagship comes out

Do you guys think the S will get a major facelift over the years(5 years) I already know the lights and the front end will change...you think the body will look the same? I'm just worried about being out dated? Do any of you S owners who own the 07-09 models feel outdated due to the change in the daytime running lights? How do you feel?

Get the S Class. The E is a wonderful car but when comparing luxury the S wins all day over the E. You will not have issues with the car being dated. Its a S Class and will look good for many years to come if taken good care of. Vote with your wallet and buy whats best for you.

Go for the S

I traded in my W211 for a 2008 S550 and never looked back. They are worlds apart and the S is MUCH better. I do not worry about the 2010 update and still love my 2008 (I currently have 32,000 miles on it). Go drive one.

Research is good, and so is asking people for their opinions, but driving both the current S and E vehicles will certainly help you form your own opinion.

Also Each new model cycle has upgraded telematics in case that is a strong factor for you - for instance the 2010 S class refresh introduced spoken word recognition for navigation instead of spelled letter recognition, and current model cars feature Bluetooth audio streaming and text message readout. The new E class will most likely have additional apps with weather, Google searching etc.

I chose a CPO 2008 S class vs a brand new 2010 E class. There are many aspects of the S class which are admirable - it is the most comfortable cruising car I have ever driven. Sometimes I feel the S is too big and the ride floats a little for my taste at low speeds, even with the suspension in Sport, but when you have 6 footers in the back they appreciate the extra space (and plushness with the rear seat package) and I have driven 8 hours straight and got out feeling fresh. If you like the sportiness of the CLS you might be surprised at your choice (it's based on the E chassis.) Either way it's a great problem to solve - good luck, let us know your thoughts after you have your vehicle.
