Is your A220 part number correct, I cannot find that part from EPC? Anyway a W220 part cannot work on a W221, the voice control command set is completely different etc. I'm afraid the W220 voice control unit cannot be programmed with a different SW like the W221 unit.
This W221 control unit is €924 in the German price list.
Did everyone get this issue fixed? This just started for me this week on my 2008 S550. Symptoms exactly as posted with the audio menu jumping around, etc.
My 2007 W216 has just started the same problem, voice control button not working, jumping out of menus and crackling through speakers. Taking to dealer on Friday whilst doing annual service!! Thank god for the extended warranty!
Mine ended up being fixed by the dealer in a software update. I waited until I had another reason to take the car in, and when I needed a new intake manifold (ouch!!!) the dealer fixed the A/V problem at the sime time.
All is well now as far as that issue is concerned.
My menus don't bounce around and no cracking audio like some of the other posters have, but my voice command button no longer works (the other buttons on the steer wheel still work) and when I call someone they can't hear me though I can hear them. At first the issue was here, then gone, but now it seems here to stay. The issue seems to point to a voice control module. I called MB Parts and they say the $1000 non-returnable voice control module is located in the rear-view mirror and you must replace the entire piece. Can anyone help with the below questions:
1. If it is in the rear-view mirror, being a handyman, can I buy voice control module and replace the rear-view mirror or do I need special tools and/or a STAR diagnostics or other software program to reinitialize some software after install?
2. Does my description indicate it would be worth taking the risk to buy the voice control module and the odds are very good it should fix the voice issue?
3. Other options, besides going manual to make calls?
Hmm, I have a related problem that just started a week ago.
I first noticed MP3 songs cut out after a short time, varying from 20 seconds to 2 minutes. Same from the memory card or DVD disk.
Next I noticed the Voice Command button no longer gives a beep or responds to commands.
I tried a commercial audio CD, same audio cut out problem.
Yesterday I also noticed the party on my Bluetooth phone call could not hear me, though I could hear them over the COMAND audio.
The menu operation is normal.
Glad I have the extended warranty.
I shall book the vehicle in soon and post back what I find from my dealer.

Hopefully Newshound will update us, especially since I don't have the extended warranty
jw, do you know the details of the software update and if there's anyway to determine if I have it already? I had my software updated 1+ year ago whilst under warranty, which gave me the ability to play DVDs. Maybe this is the same software update?
