Has anybody ever had/seen this problem? If so, can you describe your experience to me? I am trying to see if what I experience is similar. I've had it to the dealer 3 times and they always say "Normal condition":
P-B-28.00/07 JAN07 4-Matic. Possible conditions include shuddering/vibrations, howling transfer case and/or leaks at the front axle differential or transfer case. Depending on diagnosis one or more of the following components will be replaced: 722.961 Transmission part # A221 270 80 01,
Front differential #A221 330 04 02, Propeller shaft, transfer case to front axle # A221 410 17 01, Front left axle shaft # A221 330 08 01, Front right axle shaft # A221 330 09 01
Mine may be different than others. When it's at its worst, I can feel it strongly through the steering wheel under hard acceleration, most promounced right after it shifts gears, but sometimes right from the get-go in 1st. Other times, I don't feel it at all. It seems like it is the worst going up a steep hill, and when it starts in 2nd gear but downshifts to 1st, as in a rolling 5MPH start. As for the howl, I hear it most prominently at 62 and 68 MPH (but absent at other speeds and doesnt matter what gear it's in) right at throttle tip in. Let off the gas, it's quiet, barely touch the gas, it howls. Accelerate harder and it's quiet. I have noticed these symptoms from about 1500 miles and they are progressively getting worse. I was hoping others on this board had a similar experience they could share.
I'm not 100% sure what do you mean by shudder but 2 days ago, I was entering a highway and engaged full throttle, weirdly, the car jumped forth-and-back two times very strongly as if you would hit brakes and release them, engaged throttle and did the same hard braking again. It felt like gears slipped or transmission is gonna jump out and walk away.
I tried 50 - 160 Km/h few times after that and speeding up was silky smooth.
What I may call a shudder would be slowing down with no brakes applied, feeling how the car struggles with changing gears 3-2 2-1 or so I think. This can be a SW issue.
What you described is a fault for sure and you should visit your dealer and drive them around as long as needed for them to experience it (if they say it's OK).
I had a similar issue with my 2009 S550 4MATIC. Took it to the dealer and they did a transmission software update. That seemed to cure it; it hasn't happened since. As far as a howl, between 62 and 68 it quietly hums.

MY09 should already be equipped with new parts nevertheless, PM your email address and I will forward a copy of the DTB. Request a test drive with the shop foreman and present a copy of the DTB.

"Shudder" in this case is akin to a steering wheel vibration, similar to a badly out of balance tire but at a faster rate.
Well, I dropped it off at the dealer and they said "Oh, that's not for your model year" even though I have the symptoms and the bulletin says "All Model Years". Anybody have any thoughts on that?
Their response is based on DTB initially releasing JAN07 with last revision FEB08. Did the shop foreman road test your vehicle with you as a passenger? Have they offered a road test with a comparable vehicle to support their claim that it is normal? Resolve may be as simple as replacing differential fluid if road testing is refused and they continue to claim it is normal request the SM put you in touch with the local MB rep.

Yes, the shop foreman went with me and observed both conditions. Then after I left they drove other cars and said they are the same. I told them my '07 with 45K miles never did any of these things. I also told them it's getting worse as well. I am waiting to hear back from them, but I will ask to talk to the MB rep if they keep saying it's normal. I know it's not normal.
