Just picked up our new S280. Very nice car! We are in Hong Kong where you barely get to do 50MPH on a good day, so its power really is perfect (Plus gas taxed 4 times the value).
Car came with no GPS DVD for Hong Kong, dealer told me (as my car is a UK paralel import) to go buy it myself from Zungfu (the local official distributor). Checked with Zungfu, they said the price HK$9400 (US$1205) and 1 month to get it for Hong Kong maps.
Is it me or does US$1205 seem a bit excessive for a DVD?
A bit of research shows me that the maps are made by Navteq, who make maps for many companies. Does anyone know if I can simply get the map for another other source and use in the car?
Do you actually have a fresh Euro map DVD? I'd like to know which countries are covered for TMC on the latest DVD. I cannot find this info anywhere else except from the cover of the DVD.
andyhkg, the DVD itself does not cost more than a dollar but the map data and POI content costs probably millions. I guess lack of competition and a relatively low number of DVD buyers (I don't know about local tax) makes the per DVD price high, even higher than the Euro price which usually is higher than the US price. Anything higher than €190 sounds too much anyway (from a car owner point of view).
Navteq webshop did not seem to cover Asia at all. They have Europe "covered" even if the only thing they tell is that one has to buy the DVD from an MB shop.

It's the latest version, 8.0 (2009) DVD. How can I help? Scan the cover? Meet you and lend you the disk? Let me know.
