Wrong forum.. Come over to the W220.. W221 started in 2007. and not in S500 form now its S550
1. In Europe - I think its called the S500
2. W221 started in 2006 as a "2007" in the US, otherwise, it would be 2006 for Europe I believe.
I honestly have no idea what he's talking about.
It would help if he put his location and maybe more information about the vehicle.
You are correct as it was 2006 and the S550 is the American build, S500 is the European build. I am not sure but the American build may have started in 2007.

W221 sales started in September 2005 in Europe. This one might well be a 2005 W221 (probably comes with 806 code though?).
The OP does not tell what exactly is wrong with the engine but Eric has explained that there are a few cases where a new engine had to be put in. If the old one cannot be rebuilt, I would consider putting a new engine quite a good option instead of dumbing the car and selling for parts (assuming it is otherwise good).
You may want to have a look at mbgtc if they have any.

If sold in 2006 it is should still show 2006 on the vin even if it came off the production line in 05. Cars starting a build in Sep 05 were for sale as 06 cars
The balance shaft was the biggest problem in the early cars and it rather depends on how much damage was done to determine a rebuild or change engine jobby.
As an afterthought, if this car turns out to be a W220 then a rebuild should be cheaper and not a problem. Also 05 was a good year for the 220 I believe.
