quick question... I am taking delivery of an S550 4matic in a few days and I was wondering if any one has any experiences with the Clear Coat Plastic cover that the dealer can apply on the front bumper of the car.

Shop around. Prices range widely. Venture Sheild is the newest product on the market and is 10x better then the old junk they used to use and some dealers still use.
Make sure to get it applied to the entire front end, headlamps and part of the hood. Mirror caps, the rear bumper (at least the top), fender flairs, behind the wheels and around the door handles are also VERY good places to cover. The computer cut film is going to be the best, but the installer is also key. All should be covered by a lifetime warranty and is WELL worth every cent you spend. Repainting bumpers is VERY expensive on these cars.
I will only get this done at my dealership so I'm not to worried about the brand. Do you notice that the film collects dust and dirt around the edges of it? And does it really protect the car. It is a black S550.

On a black car or any car you will get dust and dirt around the edges. You will have to clean these areas with a Q tip to keep it looking good.. If I were you I would not limit myself to the dealer since they are probably going to sub contract it to an outside party. Check around and get references regarding any installer that you might choose.

Just be aware (as said above) that the dealer in 99.99% of cases does not do their own work. They will sub this out to a local shop. You could get it done cheaper by bypassing the middle man and going directly to the source. Do NOT limit yourself to just the dealer.
You should be VERY worried about the brand. The material quality varies greatly between manufacturers. The cheap stuff will peel, yellow, chip and haze. Dealers often sub out their work to the lowest bidder, who uses the old cheap stuff. Venture Sheild will not do any of that and is optically perfect. It is also covered under a lifetime manufacturer warranty.
You will notice a little bit of dust around the edges after you clean the car, but just brush it out. This stuff really does protect the paint. Small stones will bouce off it, fingernails will not scratch the paint around the door hanels, and bugs will not stick. It can save your $2000+ headlamp from a stone.
If I were to have the sheild installed on the front and back bumpers, fender flares, and head lamps and partily on the hood. Will I be able to notice where the film ends and the uncovered areas begin?

Only if you are right up against the car. The new stuff is very impressive when compared to the old stuff.

I went for the Venture Shield and am very happy with it ( So far just one day). Got the entire hood covered to avoid the visible line ( If the entire hood is not covered you will be able to see the line), front and rear bumpers, front fenders. Attached some pictures:
Forgot to mention the side mirrors and the front head lights were also covered.

Did you go around the door handles and behind them? If any Women drive or will enter your car, they will scratch the heck out of the paint with their fingernails. I would do the mirror caps also, and the bump out in front of the rear wheel, that extends onto the rear door. That will get really stone chipped if left uncovered.

Thanks for your great suggestions. I am going to look into it.
