The mirrors are ugly to me, I could agree with the comment on "Brabus style fogs". Looks almost like C-class mirrors, making the car wider (asking for bigger garage door width which may be an issue in Europe).
Odd that the car seems to have the Distronic main radar but only traditional Parktronic.
The larger, more angular mirrors match the car bulk better. The current mirrors look a little wimpy. The C-class mirror style with the arrow shaped turn lights is becoming standard issue on most MBs nowadays (ML, SLK, CLS, SL). Plus in the U.S. folding mirrors are standard so no issue with the size. Makes for better visibility IMHO.

Taste is personal, I just claimed the current shape matches better the car shapes in my opinion. My intention was not to negate your preference.
Folding mirrors (as well as reversing position for the passenger) are standard in Europe as well. But I don't want to have mirrors folded when reversing to/from the garage. I don't have a problem with my garage but US members may not understand this issue as you usually have very big garages while an S-class may not fit at all to one in Europe.
I'm guessing the new mirror style would be better for wind noise from the mirrors. The E-class had a bit of a similar change with the face lift.
