Perhaps a clarification, the above was for the W220 owner. And it does not bring the bird's eye view, if someone feels that is any important enhancement. But if I remember right, the updates for the W220 too bring new features like ETA displayed on the main navigation display mode. The map updates of course another advantage.
Dealer reports that part number for latest Nav DVD for W221 (USA) is:
BQ 646 0233 for $199. I'm going to pick mine up this week. Do you think that will necessitate an upgrade to my Command which will give me all the cool new features?
I just had my dealer install a factory iPod interface, but neither an iPod Nano or an iPod Touch (both of which work in our '08 GL450) will work or are recognized. On the iPod is just says "Accessory Attached". No iPod or Aux Audio menu item appears in the AUDIO menu - anyone know why?
I've tried using the codes found on this forum to get into my Command system to see if the feature was activated, but they don't seem to apply to my W221 (for instance "mute" "end call" but what button is "service"???)
Thanks for your help - I really like this forum and hope to contribute as I can!!

MBUSA DTB P-B-82.85/512e DEC07 updates the Telematics system under warranty to accommodate the new navigation DVD and adds additional features. If you need a copy to present to your SA, PM your email address. If the dealer refuses update notify MBUSA CAC (customer assistance center) 800-367-6372 and explain that you were denied warranty service.

I have a 2007 W211 and am wondering, does anyone know what specific functionality this update would add for this model?
If it adds real time traffic and even the ability to shut the screen off I am sold on this car. It seems dumb to lease another '09 just for the Navi Unit.
One quick question: Can you W221 owners input a real address? (full street address with number) I hate having to enter ranges into the stupid thing.

None of the updates mentioned in this thread apply to your MY07 211. To date, the only head unit updates available for the 211 applies to MY03 (Audio50), MY04 through 06 (COMAND). Your MY07 already has the current software installed at production (i.e.: ETA, etc.). Unfortunately, the only way you can match the 221 COMAND (i.e.: navigation) as you mentioned is with MY09. Possibly, the next release may allow for an update to your current system matching MY09 by way of a service disc and new navigation DVD – time will tell.
I had the dealer install the 6.12 Command Software and also purchased the latest DVD. I was with the tech the whole time and watched the upgrade process. Many sub-systems also had to be upgraded to accommodate the new Command features. The whole upgrade process took over two hours. Everything worked EXCEPT Voice Command - that installation FAILED during install. It was late so I said I would bring the S550 back the next day. I noticed on the ride home that the mic for my Bluetooth interface no longer worked - must be part of the Voice Command feature (makes sense). The next day I went back and the tech showed me a bulletin he just received from MB that said that the upgrade to Command had problems with Voice Command. MB was working on a fix. OK - so I'm out a BT interface for a while... probably a few weeks he said.
LET ME TELL YOU, the upgrade is amazing. The Bird's Eye view of the maps is the ONLY way to go. Beautiful resolution, color, and POI's that really look great. Also, the RDS data (comes from FM sub-carrier transmissions, not satellite radio) displays symbols on the map where traffic issues are, plus you can pull up a list, sorted and presented by highway, of the various issues.
The iPod interface (also newly installed) also works great. Hard to pick the album though, mainly just scroll through songs on a particular album. Looks like the MidCity iPod upgrade is in my future
The CD changer is also a DVD changer. ( I think - maybe it's just Disc 1...). When the parking brake is on the picture appears. As you drive away the picture fades to black but you can still hear the audio portion. Two inputs are added: Video from the DVD and AUX Video (iPod upgrade fills this need!). I noticed when the tech was doing the upgrade that there is also a setting for the "blackout" where it works provided the vehicle is moving less than 5km/hr. This would be much better than the parking brake so I'm going to have him tweak this setting next time. BUT - MidCity has a module that will keep the video on for your passenger while you drive (of course!). [Anyone know of a backseat monitor that will feed off this video so my kids can watch the DVD easily?]
The new software eliminates the choice in camera aids when backing up. The new Parking Assist just comes on and aids as you need - BUT (are you listening MB??) a very annoying thing happens when you turn the wheel too far - it puts up a BIG RECTANGLE message on the screen for like 5 seconds that tells you that you turned the wheel too far for PA to help anymore. No kidding! But now, when I need the camera for precise location, I have this big box instead of my usually muddy picture. Get rid of the useless warning. [BTW - any of you notice how muddy this picture really is? My wife's GL-450 (08) has a GREAT HD camera. My 07 camera is almost fuzzy. Lens IS clean guys...
As for the 08 Nav DVD for the US:
I noticed that when trying to input a street number, if the database does not contain the specific address, then all you can do is navigate to the street... oh well. Maybe MB should release DVD's by region of the US (East/West?) so that more street numbers are available.
Highly recommend the Command Upgrade - if you can live with the disabled Voice Command for a while (no biggie to me - but no BT can be a pain...).

Did you check the Map DVD size, it should have plenty of room for more data. And your Comand APS hard disc would take more data than a single DVD can hold. So the restriction to house number range instead of an exact number is not from the MB navi capability but the from the decision on what to put to the database. Interesting that you are happy with the POI data anyway, perhaps it has improved, US owners usually aren't happy with that.
