Why is Mercedes having so much trouble with part shortages? We put
our order in 4 weeks ago and now they say the dynamic seats won't be
available for months. Anyone else run into this problem?

This has been going on since last February (2006) when the car was introduced in the US market. My order kept getting pushed back and/or various options were not available. I finally found a vehicle in April to my liking at an out of state dealer and bought that. Demand has been off the wall apparently and suppliers can just not keep up or MB in-demand order system needs an overhaul. If it isn't seats, then it is night-vision, or distronic plus, or you name it.
I have a GL ordered and all my options are still available for a April 26th build date...but my fingers are crossed.

I got mine within 4 weeks. has dynamic contour seats, night vision, premium leather and so on. I was going to do build to order but they found exactly what i was looking for by searching world wide MB inventory. It was already on the ship so i just had to wait till it arrives in U.S.
If you don't have a Production Number on your S550 order, you may be in trouble. MBUSA has actually removed the option for Multi-Contour seats from the dealer order screens, and I've been informed that any of my S classes that don't already have the 432 option, will not be built with them.
My order bank now has 39 cars that are showing in error status due to the inclusion of the M-C seats. Most of my customers have agreed to forgo the seats, as the best estimate that I can get from MBUSA is that these cars won't be built as 2007 models.
S600's and S65's are not affected by the shortage.

That's a real loss in my estimation. The M-C seats are one of the best features of the car...especially on long trips.
MB has done some very "strange" things in the 2007 MY with shortages and deletion of options. My car has been perfect with almost a years ownership but the problems of building a car to a customers specs has been a complete disaster. They best get their inventory on demand in shape by the time BMW gets the new 7 into the market place.

That reflects my experience...
My dealer waited until the last minute to try to add the multi-contour seats and the dynamic rear view monitor on my March D2 slot S550 4matic and only the rear view monitor was accepted.
Like Nevada Jack said, MBUSA is doing some silly things with the way they manage the options - I had to give up on a RWD with ABC after having the car ordered for 8 weeks for a 4matic because of allocation issues for the northeast. The gruelsome details can be found on the MBWorld W221 forum so I won't go into details.
Guess MBUSA has decided that S600 and S65s have the priority and S550 drivers are second class citizens...

I'm a dealer in the northeast, and I do have a RWD S550 with ABC scheduled for Mid-March production. They're tough, but not impossible. I had to take off the M-C seats in order to get it pulled for production.

That is a sad commentary for a $100K Mercedes order a year after the official release of the car in the US.
