finally received S550--arctic white(new shade of white), gray interior, P3 (ordered ala carte), distronic plus, elec trunk, R31 wheels. I first ordered this car 11 months ago, but had to wait until now to get P3. At least during the wait, they got rid of the Sirius bump on the trunk.
Traded in 2000 S500 with 90,000 miles. This new one is a great ride, although the 2000 would still run at 100+ mph like a rock. Picture attached, i hope.
I also owned a 2000 S500 and I now own a 2007 S600. The new S class makes the old one feel like a 1985 Pontiac. I love the color of your car. In a way, I wish I had held off for a white one myself. It looks so big and classy in white. When you mentioned you had distronic, I felt a sigh of relief. This car should not be sold without it. Being without distronic is like being without power windows. congrats.
the distronic is a real plus. i make about 8 trips a year over 1000 miles each and look forward to this feature, along with the night view assist. by the way, do you use the option that automatically brakes the car if it senses a pending collision, even if you are not using distronic? I am concerned it would brake the car when i am moving aggressively through some traffic. i would not want the brakes applied if i want to be accelerating.

So your car was delivered just recently. My car is from last August and it only has the warning feature but does not brake unless distronic is switched on. I guess the new one works in the way that it also actively brakes when you switch the Distronic warning on, without have the Distronic cruise on?
You cannot break the car by making it brake itself. The engine power would anyway get controlled when brakes are applied and otherwise the car would stand steping the brake pedal at full force. Enjoy the enhanced feature. I wish they would be able to update the SW to activate that feature on earlier cars too (like SBC hold for early W211 cars).
This feature i was questioning is called "PRE-SAFE brake". cars with distronic plus can set this feature on the "assistance menu" that will: 1)warn you of a possible collision, 2)automatically begin to brake the car up to 112 mph, 3)activate pre-safe occupant measures. my question is that if i approach a car on the highway at a fast speed and plan to change lanes, will it start to brake the car just when i want to pull out to pass? I am a little concerned with this.
i wonder if anyone has experience with this. i guess the best way is to get on the highway and give it a go.
i am now up to 400 miles and got on the highway today...this girl has some get-up-and-go.

This should be all the same as for the first cars except that the earlier ones, if you activate the warning feature from the assistance menu, would only give the red warning triangle and a warning sound at certain conditions while the new implementation also applies brakes. There was a detailed description but I think it would only brake by itself a bit later than the time the earlier models give the warning tone (I believe the warning tone comes at the same point on both, not sure). Now I always have the warning on and I only get the warning tone in very exceptional conditions.
I'm sure you would want the car brake when it does it at 99.99% of cases and the rest are still harmless. In the scenario you describe, you should pull out latest at the warning but I'm pretty sure you would not want to pull out that late.
As said, I do not have this feature of automatic braking, just the different warnings (when Distronic+ is not set on). Please report on your driving experience as well as others that have the new implementation on their cars. If people are happy with it, I would try to figure out if they can update the car SW to support this feature perhaps at the next service.
I am so happy that when I bought mine, they already deleted that even though I do have Sirius. I still see others with it and I always think.... I am sooo glad I dont have that. Congrats to everyone.
