There's a way to do it, check around the internet and this site for info how. I've heard of people doing it in their Lexus LS430s and even Jeep Grand Cherokees. I'm sure anything with a DVD navigation system can be "hacked" to play DVD movies

yes you can unlock your screen with dvd and TV options but youll need to add a brain to your s550 you can find these on ebay someone from germany sells these i have this done at a mercedes dealer after buying this thru ebay hope this helps GOOD LUCK!
The standard w221 USA headunit will NOT play movies from the comand dvd drive. This feature has been disabled for usa due to laws here. IT CANNOT be enabled using the factory star diagnose system. Using an aftermarket adapter such as NAV-TV unit may work for you but their w221 adapters are horrible. I have done one recently. THe dynamic seats will no longer work with this adapter. Also, if you have a factory rear view camera, you will have to install 5 relays to switch CAN signals from back to front. Even then, it has problems and I would not advise to go with this route.

I just got my S550, but i dont have the rear view camera. Can you recommend one that might work well with the nav tv tuner you mentioned last...i'm wondering if its even worth it...
You need an aftermarket DVD changer or player, one other thing, a couple wires and your in.
Would be nice for all (others, I don't need this as I have a Euro car and already have DVD video) if you would explain more. What is required and where do you get connected. Are you really talking about (US) W221 cars?
I'm sorry but sunman has proven his knowledge and experience here before, I would not buy a simple sentence almost trying to say he was wrong.

He is correct in that you can't play them from the factory drive that is why I said you need an aftermarket dvd drive.
