I'm bored so I thought i'd share my opinion about the W221. I have yet to drive one, so I'll reserve handling, acceleration, etc. judgement. But I have been in and out of them so.... As for styling..... WOW! The exterior of the car reminds me of my W140s with a touch of Maybach. I think the AMG style of the W221 is the nicest looking car on the road! They are truely beautiful, unlike the W220 which was... junk. The interior of the new S is alittle too similar to that of the BMW 7-Series, but still has a Mercedes Feel. I believe this car to redeem Mercedes of their recent failings. I'm anxious to drive one, but I know as soon as I do.... I'll be hooked and end up selling my soul to get one.
I'm curious to know if anyone here has a S65 AMG? I read about them and decided that's the only W221 for me hahaha Are they really as good as everyone says? 600+ HP is quite breath-taking! Is it really worth the near $200,000 price tag many dealers are asking?
Just my 2 cents..... To all you W221 Owners, I envy you!

Great post but the comment about the similarity of the interior of the BMW is questionable. I find it nothing like the BMW once I used it for a week. I hated the BMW dash layout and functions, but I grabbed a hold of the MB system quickly. They nailed it perfectly. I agree, the W220 was junk ( I owned one for about a year and a half and the quality was very poor). On the other hand, the CL class during that time was awesome ( I owned two of those).
I had a VW Phaeton (12 cylinder) between the two CLs. The Phaeton was the best luxury sedan until the new S class came along.
Mercedes-Benz is certainly the finest car company in existence. I personally flew to Germany last May and witnessed the manufacturing of the VW Phaeton and the new S class. The Germans just know how to build a fine car. The new S class has every feature you'll ever need/want and it does it well.
The only feature I don't care for is the night vision. Everything else, especially distronic, is superb.
Personally find the 220 series more attractive and more unique in its styling. Quality on mine is excellent. First registered december 2005 and just completed 20,000 trouble-free miles. Great car.
Probably the 2004 thru 2006 W220s were certainly improved. I did like the refresher taillights and headlights and the extra chrome that was added. The styling of the W220 was not bad at all. It just didn't have the bank vault feeling I was used to in the models of the '90s. I had a 2000 S class and problems were abundant within MB world. I really like what MB has done with quality and user friendliness of their cars. They have kept German engineering while meeting the marketing demands of the Americas.
