I think nevadajack needs to look again. My manual keyhole in the trunk does not allow you to remove the key except in the first position. Clearly there's a difference between the diagram posted and the US cars...
How ridiculous that M-B has taken such a useful feature away! You can only lock a valet out of the glovebox and not the trunk!!
I don't think NJ needs to look again, he only said there is a key slot at the trunk. He might need to try if the trunk can be locked though.
Considering that MB has built the feature like you said yourself (it is there for the European market), it may not be ridiculous at all to remove the feature from the US market. There actually must be a very good reason. The same applies for child locks on the rear doors. The car even allows the child locks temporarily bypassed from the driver's door control button. I always keep the left rear door child locked and only allow people step out once I have myself checked there is no traffic (that is the street side in my case).
From the car owner's point of view this looks ridiculous and this must have been your point too.
