Yeah there is a chance. I'm sure I read that they were shipping out the E320 CDI this fall then the ML320 CDI later on. I've read about the S320 CDI but not sure when they are going to start shipping in US though. But I'm pretty sure they don't have a diesel V8.
Common rail direct fuel injection is a modern variant of direct injection system for Diesel engines. It features a high-pressure (1000+ bar) fuel rail feeding individual solenoid valves, as opposed to low-pressure fuel pump feeding pump nozzles or high-pressure fuel line to mechanical valves controlled by cams on the camshaft. Third generation common rail diesels now feature piezo injectors for even greater accuracy, with fuel pressures up to 1700 bar.
Hope that helps - from Wikipedia.
I have the 320cdi S class and love it. 0-62 mph in 7.6 seconds according to Autocar, which is plenty for normal use and a top speed of 150 or so. Way out of reach on UK roads. Official govt figures are 27 mpg round town, 44 extra urban and a combined figure of 35 mpg. I get 37 on a run cruising at 75 or so and average over 30 in mixed driving. Huge torque (turning power) means bags of low down grunt, effortless power without high revs and cruising at 70 mph, for example, only needs a leisurely 2000 revs. So it is quiet and relaxed. Not like diesels of old. The torque figures are a bit more than the 5 litre V8 petrol!
