Back in March I visited my local MB dealership to get a look at the new W221 and although I really liked the look of the car inside and out I was disappointed with the quality of the materials used in it.
Compared with the W140 and W126 the car seemed lacking in substance although it was an improvement on the W220.
Like all S Class fans I really want to see this car return the marque to it`s former glory days and I have been wondering how the car is actually performing in real life?
The electronics seem to have been the achilles heel of virtually all of MBs recent efforts so it would be encouraging to learn that both mechanically and electronically the car is performing well.
Similarly how are the internal materials and trim bearing up? The car has only been on our roads here in the UK since mid-March but so far I have not seen any negative feedback which is good.
How are they going in the US where they have been around for several months longer?

I have owned my S550 since April 5th. It now has over 6500 miles on it.
The interior is perfect with no complaints or problems. Mechanically and electronically the car is perfect with no complaints or problems. The car handles great and the mileage on a recent 5000+ mile trip averaged 25.8mpg. The ride is superb.
I have seen nor heard of any problems with the car from EU or the US. A great MB!

That's a heck of a trip! Scotland is 400 odd miles from my South of England home and the South of France is only 700 or so. Where do you go for a 5000 mile trip? Over several weeks? How is comfort and fatigue on a really long trip like that.
Glad to hear you are trouble free. I've had a dozen Mercs over the years and 11 were trouble free. Great cars. Autocar and most UK car mags rate the S class the best car in the world.
Trouble is on any forum we are likely to write in when something goes wrong. I don't write in to say my rear light is working well.

My trip took me from Las Vegas Nevada to Charleston South Carolina, then to Gulfport Mississippi and then back home. It's about 2300 miles west to east and back plus the side trips. The trip took me 13 days. Average speed on most of the trip was at 70mph since the speed limits are 75 and most travel at 80.
The car was very comfortable and fatigue was not a factor. I credit this to the multi-contour ventilated seats with the massage feature. The massage really helped to release any tension or stiffness from sitting for 9-11 hours on long run days.
And yes...very few post on how good things are...only the bad no matter how minute they may be...:-)
