Does anhyone know anything about the bluetooth for the new S Class ? Why is everything with MB such a big secret ? Very frustrating company. How can people buy cars when their own dealers don't have the information as to which phones will or will not work with their new car ?? not very professional
2007 Phone Systems
S-Class:
The S550 comes 100% factory installed. Dealer installs Cradle or Bluetooth-adapter. (Handset not included)
CL, SL, E, CLS, R, GL, and M-Class
Pre-wiring is not available. A factory phone kit is offered in various P1/P2 Packages. The factory installs the complete phone system, while Dealer installs choice of Cradles or Bluetooth-Adaptors. If package that includes the phone is not selected when the phone is ordered from the factory the phone cannot be retrofitted—vehicle will not have the necessary wiring. THIS IS A MAJOR CHANGE.
CLK, SLK, C-Class
Prewire offered only in option packages. Stand alone option not available. Factory phone kit not available. Provided vehicle has been ordered with option package that includes “prewire, the customer can order a “dealer installed phone and choice of cradles or Bluetooth Adaptors. If vehicle does not have option package with prewire, the phone can’t be retrofitted.
As most of you know. I wish that we weren’t involved in the phone business at all. I believe the concept of the “Car Phone is obsolete. People wear their phones now, and the addition of a $79 Bluetooth earpiece makes it voice activated and hands free. Most have speakerphone capability. Having to plug the phone into the car to have those capabilities is a thing of the past. Additionally the phone companies are trying to make your phone obsolete every 2 years. Our cars will last 100 years. This means your phone will be obsolete very quickly. In the past it’s not always been possible to update the phone system to the current requirements. At least a Bluetooth adapter will allow you to use the current phone of choice – until they replace Bluetooth with Purplegum or whatever comes next.
But there is one major reason to have a car phone, Infrared filtering windshields. The S550 has that as standard equipment, and it comes with some packages on MLs and Rs. Your hand-held phone’s antenna won’t work very well inside those cars. Additionally, of course, you can’t charge the phone unless it’s plugged in. A Bluetooth adapter will be available for 2007s, and that’ll work fine for cars without Infra-red filtering windshields.
Bluetooth
The most common question I’m getting these days is, “Is it Bluetooth? When I say no, the conversation ends, and the prospective customer goes looking at other brands. Since some of those brands use the same windshields we do, I suspect that’s why they’re having Bluetooth reception problems.

As far as I see from here your dealers and of course MBUSA does not do their job well. Everything is chaotic about Mercedes in the US. Here MB's reputation for service and treatment of dealers is much much better. This makes Mercedes even more valuable and elite. I think the opposite happens in the US.
Thank you very much for your detailed reply.May I please, though, ask a couple of pointed questions so that I will understand better :
1. I don't like wearing a headset. I much prefer for my phone to work through the radio system. Will the new S Class :
A) have bluetooth cabability standard in the car with the first shipments ?
b) I assume I will have to buy an adapter from MB that will work with my particular phone. Do you know if MB will have adapters that will work with PDA phones (this is important to me), and if so, which models ?
c) How much do you think they will charge for this adapter, and will it be available immediately ?
d) Do you need to use the cradle, or can you keep your phone on your belt ? Is the adapter basically for charging the phone ?
Finally, are you with MB , as you seem quite knowledgeable. Thank you very much for your help.
Iam confused about the infra=red windshield. Does this mean that a cell phone won't work properly in the new S Class ? If so, why would MB do that ?It doesn't make much sense, does it ? I need a vehicle that has no issues when using acell phone and blue tooth using a PDA phone is very important to me. Please advise. Thanks again-
Thanks for your reply. My main concern is to understand exactly what will be available, when, at what cost, which phones will work with it, etc for the new S class in terms of blue tooth. For some reason, the MB dealers are totally uninformed about it. In fact, many don't evenknow what the new interior colors will look like.Everything is a secret with MB. I can't understand it. They also don't prewire their cars for Sirius radio anymore. Thismeans that ifyou have a 2004 with Sirius that you bought from MB, you can not transfer the module into a new MB car. You are forced to buy the same Sirius module all over again. Is that a fair way to treat your customers ? On customer care, they can learn to drop their arrogant attitude and treat customers fairly like BMW and Lexus do. Just my opinion.
This is a .pdf file with all accesories for S-Class. But it is in German and for Europe. However you can have a look at page 20 and see for which mobile phones you will be able to get a "preparation" in your car. Hope it helps...
