My test drive....

So finally got to test drive the new S for about 30 minutes. Random thoughts.

The steering is way way to light. Command/iDrive sucks. Please please give us our buttons. The speedo in incredible, can't even tell its a monitor. Seats are nice and big, very comfortable. Acceleration is very good, lots of torque. Shifter sucks, might as well put it in the Command, everything else is.

Love the highter dash design, my parents W220, the dash is kinda low for my taste. Loved the pnuematic doors, copied from the BMW 7, it stops anywhere you open the door, no detents anymore. Doors do sound more solid when closing, still has the auto close feature. Why isn't the trunk closer standard on the S?

The one I test drove had the nightvision and it worked well. Command sucks. Not as quiet as I thought the interior would be. The steering wheel design looks like it from the GM parts bin. The few buttons there were, felt very nice, real metal not plastic.

Overall I think I'd wait until the S63 comes out. But a worthy successor to the W220.

RE: My test drive....

The steering has much more feeling in W221. It is of course light but driving pleasure is much better than w220.

RE: My test drive....

I'm comparing it to a W220 S55 AMG K. I haven't really driven a non AMG S W220.

the 220 does not have that satisfying of a ride, in my opinion. It is often somewhat bumpy even on smooth roads.

don't. They aren't as good as the amg versions. Slower response. I am comparing it to the drive in a S430 to a S55
