Car and Driver just reviewed the S550...

They seem to like it but blasted the new Command for being stupidly complicated for simple tasks like tuning the radio.

My parents have the W220 S55 and can tell you that they will be hard pressed to learn how to use the new Command. Unfortunately for Mercedes, these older type folks are the demographics for the big S.

Yea, I hear ya. Me being young and of an engineers mind can work my way through the systems and would find the new COMMAND to be very nice, but the older people will have more issues with it. Perhaps apon purchase a representative will provide assistance for the system.

RE: Car and Driver just reviewed the S550...

Or perhaps the old guys can just pre-program everything once the first time around and never change it after that???[:D]

I have been wondering about ONE thing in these high end luxury cars: the number of seat position memory buttons; why have as many as three??? I mean, unless you have a chauffeur and your wife or husband as additional drivers, what do you need with 3 positions. I'll bet that the number of people who actually use that 3rd seat memory position is so small, but then again what is a little excess after you shell out 80 grand huh!!!

I feel the same way about electronic seat adjusters on cars like the SLK, z4, S2000, etc. I mean, since I got my SLK I have not had to adjust the seats except to move them forward to clean under them. Oh, and the very rare and few times when my shorter 5 feet 9 inches friend drove my car [once or twice]. Unless your partner is very short I believe you can dispence with the added weight and cost that such systems put on your car. How often are you going to be moving back and forth anyway??

Just my opinion...

i personally don't like the way that car and driver, and road and track, and many other american magazines review cars. They never tell you whether the car is good or bad. they just say that everything is "fair".
European magazines tend to be better for some reason, and actually tell you which cars are good, and which cars are bad.
