By any standards that is amazing economy for such a monster engine -and petrol too. Even some diesels would be quite proud shifting over two tons to get that. BUT DO TELL how do you average 63 with US speed limits??????????
Serious point are all US roads restricted speed? UK is 60 on main roads and 70 on dual carriageways and motorways.
The speed limit on US interstate highways is 75mph, and most drivers cruise at 79/80 so the cops will not bother them. Most days of driving yielded 70-72 mph averages and the city driving and traffic reduced the overall mileage to 63mph.

You are correct and I think the S550 5000 mile trip I just completed bears that out. Here are the stats from my trip and the mileage is quite amazing considering the average speed and weight of this car. These figures include all city, highway and delays along the line. BTW, wind noise was almost non-existant at any speed up to the max I ran the car at of 100mph.
745li has the same 'intrusion' of dash, etc. compared to the older 740il as newer S has to 140 series.
In fact, there is more space in 140 series.

Indeed so. And the more they go for the 'I'm-a-spaceship,-just-landed-from-Mars and-aren't-I-streamlined' look, the more the 'A' pillar and windscreen gets sloped back the less and less room there will be inside. And the more sun to fry you alive. And the nearer the A pillar is to the driver's eyes, the bigger is the blindspot. Then more and more slope on the rear screen, let's in yet more sun and reduces interior space still further.
AND -think about this one- if you have big flared wheel arches, then (for any given width of car) you get less room inside. (The sides are pushed inwards to make room for the flaring).
