Price of new S in Thailand

The new S when it is available here in Bangkok will cost about $250,000.00 US for the 280 model. Probably double that for the top of the line.

Wow, that's expensive.

You know, 280 is really enough engine size for Thailand. With all the traffic in Bangkok, all you need is enough engine power to blow cold air while your car rolls in traffic.

Because of the excessive tax on them.

Here in Turkey there is a similar story. New S350 comes about 200K $$$ and S500 about 240K.

On imported cars (new or used) with engine cc between 2000 and 3000 the duty is 200%. Even on cars with less than 2000 cc the duty is 137%. A SL 55 AMG costs about $425,000.00 (US).

My mistake! The current S line offers a 280...however the new S line will start at 350. That is the one that will cost $250,000.00. The current 280S sells for $155,000.00 (US).
