4 Seater Option in S? and what you think about Phaeton?

Hi there,

Wondering if the S Class, (W220/W221) offer 4 Seater option? Similar to that of Maybach 4 seater?

Besides, I am quite a fan of the VW Phaeton, anyone drove one or own one or ride in one wanna comment/compare?

4 place seating is available in the current s-class (220) run. i don't know about the next gen s-class (221); too early to know?

as for the vw phaeton - i just read a fairly comprehensive (pp.96-102) review or 'four seasons test" by automobile magazine (dec 05); they logged just under 31,000 miles. i'll give the highs/ lows from the article here. if you want more - go buy it. i have no opinion one way or the other - never been in one.

'the (vw) phaeton is a fine luxury car let down by niggling electrical faults and the vw body.'

'the world's best totally unnecessary car.'

pros: fabulous interior, perfect seats, long-distance cruiser

cons: electrical gremlins, heavy depreciation, passat-like styling

price as tested (new): $70,415 (2004)
trade-in value (OUCH!!!!): $38,133 (one year later!!!!!!)

I have driven one (that we got as a trade in car) for a few 1.000 km. The car was OK, but nothing special. It resold after 15 months and about 30.000 km for 50% of retail...

I just read that that VW is taking the car out from the US-market because of slow sales.

I would go fo the new S-class that is just fab (but then I AM biased[:)]).

I don’t know about the four seat option.

The Phaeton is a nice car (especially with the W12 engine), I have not driven a Phaeton, but have driven a Bentley continental gt with the same w12 engine. It was very powerful. I have sat in a Phaeton at an auto show. It is a very nice and spacious car, but I have heard that Volkswagens are very unreliable. Even the cars that are supposed to be sensible car, such as the Jetta, have expensive maintenance.

Stay away from the Phaeton. I've haven't heard good things about it...

i have heared that one of the VW's showroom have their parts department open till 12 midnight their their service department open till 9pm source -dallas morning news or car guy car talk on kera

Nice luxury automobile but it's a still a Volkswagen. Maybe to some that's not a bad thing but then I would point out that it has never sold very well, even with heavy lease subsidies.

It was Volkswagen's answer to a question that should never had been asked. I've never understood why it didn't carry the Audi badge; maybe it would have done a lot better.

Hi, within Europe at least the main rear seat options seem to be:
- code 223: "an electrically adjustable back seat bench with a fixed centre section" or "Sitzbank im Fond mit elektrisch verstellbaren Aussensitzen und Kopfstutzen mit PRE-SAFE-Positionierungsfunktion fur Aussensitze und aussere Kopfstutzen"
- code 224: "two individual seats" or "Einzelsitze im Fond"
- code 276: "Rear seat memory"
- code 406: "multicontour seats with massage function" or "Multikontursitze im Fond mit Massagefunktion"
- code 402: "comfort seats with seat ventilation and seat heating" or "Komfortsitze im Fond inkl. Beluftung und Sitzheizung (Leder perforiert)"
- code 437: "comfort headrestraints" or "Komfortkopfstutzen im Fond fur die Aussensitze"

PS. Seen a Phaeton at a car show, but couldn't try the seats as the car was locked, have tried the MB rear seats (W221).
