Got our new S-Class
Last night I picked up my dad's new 2006 S-Class which we ordered several months ago. It's sort of a surprise for him and it will give me enough time to figure out all of the controls and teach both of my parents how to use it.
I had enough time to drive it around about 20 miles yesterday and I can say that there is a major difference in the way the car drives and handles compared to the previous generation S500 (haven't driven an '05 with 7-speed transmission before). The suspension does an even better job of keeping the car level in corners while being smoother over bumps, the extra 80hp is noticeable, gear shifts are very smooth, and the interior feels like it's much higher quality than the plastic-y one that was in the W220 S-Class.
The new COMAND system is very pretty compared to the old one, is definitely easier to use than the original i-Drive system that was in my 2002 BMW 745i, but it still has a learning curve which is a little daunting...and i used to work at microsoft.
I'll post more impressions today after I get home from work as I'm taking the manual with me to do some homework. [:D]

Wow Jimmy, that's really nice! Your pics look much better than the PR shots sent out by MB, thus proving that the PR people at MB need to be seriously slapped.
I wish you all the best. The look on your father's face as he sees it is priceless...you'd better take a pic of that. [:D]

RE: Got our new S-Class
Thanks Brent, I will try and get a picture when he's back in town next week. He deserved it since he bought is current car back in 1999 and it's beginning to show it's age and becoming expensive to maintain.
The sad thing is that I'm looking forward to jumping in my G-wagen and driving to work despite having this thing sitting in the driveway looking at me. There must be something wrong with me! [:D]

Nothing at all...besides, why would you want to take your Dad's car to work when you can take your own? [;)] [:D]
To be honest, if I could own a W461 and had the choice to drive a Rolls Royce, I'd pick the G in a heartbeat. Call me weird, but I wouldn't want to drive anything else either. It's a G thing, who said it had to make any sense? [:D]

I agree with you there. There are now several outstanding stock pictures of the W221 at DaimlerChrysler MediaServices, though, and the overall set is actually much better than the images that were originally released by Mercedes-Benz.

It's definitely good to hear positive real-world feedback about the new chassis. Congratulations!
On a related note, I've been enjoying your Weblog. It's a very nice read. [:)]
Honestly, looking at the pictures the New S-Class is starting to grow into me. At first I didnt really like it. Now I want to see it with the AMG Package Body Kit. Awesome car Jimmy!!!! Sure to hope to get one too..
