I want one. And then I'll drive it in and out of the BMW new car lot everyday until the salesmen and women get frustrated and retire from the BMW business. [:D]
LOL! That reminds me, my girlfriend and I went to look at the 7-series since I still haven't been in the current style one. So we roll up in my S500 and get into an unlocked 745i that was parked out in front. The salesmen wouldn't even help or acknowledge us, it's as if they KNEW a guy in an S-Class would never seriously consider stooping down to buying the 7-Series! Even when we went inside the showroom they were still ignoring us!
And quite honestly we were hugely disappointed with the car, the interior was one of the cheapest-looking either of us had ever seen ... reminded me of a Honda ... I won't complain anymore about the quality of my car's interior.
I've had first hand experience, very similar to yours. Why else do you think I would buy a new S-class and drive it over to BMW?
Simply for sheer payback and to annoy the hell out of them. [:D] FWIW, I was wearing a nice suit and out with my son. Nevermind them, some people are very little.
Same thing happened to me. Pulled up to Ralph Schomp BMW and the salespeople there completely ignored me. Also went to Glauser Mercedes to take a look at the E-Wagon. Salesman was like, "you got an S, why would you be looking at an E?"
Trust me... I left MB ownership in 2000 ( I am back now... just bought two '06 models) and went to BMW.... Mainly because the 2000 S class I ordered was on severe backorder.... so , I bought a 740iL
In that time I bought two BMWs and leased one. The customer service in the new car section was awful.... no one ever waited on me.... even when I drove up in another BMW
In the service department, I was one of the family.... between the 3 cars I was in service every other week.... for over 5 years.
I hope the visits are less with MB... keeping my fingers crossed
I recall back in the day I went to the BMW dealership in my modified VW (wearing a ripped jeans) & i was ignored - it was like i wasn't even there. So just for the hell of it I went home and borrowed my brothers Ferrari for 5 minutes and wouldn't you believe it they were all over me like flies. Of course I promptly asked them where the nearest MB dealership was in a thick italian accent (both of those cars had swiss plates on them).
You should have seen the looks on their faces as i peeled out of there.

STORM That is so funny! You know what? I really cant stand dealers that behave that way. Ill tell ya, my dad has NO CLUE about cars. He has a 2001 740iL because I suggested it. He was going to get a Honda cuz, "thats all he needed". Anyways - He told me to go and find him a car and he would buy it (within reason). So, this was in 2000 (for the 2001 model year). I was 19. I loved BMWs and so I went to our local dealer on my own and was looking at the 7 series. I had a budget of $90,000 and below...which ruled out the 750iL so the next best was the 740iL. I wanted to ask a few questions (dad had a few requirements, cup holders, nav, etc etc). Let me tell you, NO ONE wanted to even give me a moment! They were sitting at their desks, I dont know if they were busy or not.... But then... this is the funny part, The Dealership Manager is my dads client (dads an accountant)! He recognized ME from the photo of me which sits on dads desk in the office. He came out and said "Your Joe's son right??" I said yeah, I am, I need help - dad wants this car but no one will talk to me!.... You can only imagine how PISSED the guy got!!!! HE actually called ALLLL The sales people to the floor and asked EACH ONE "Did you see this customer looking at this car?" Each said yes! "DID ANY OF YOU BOTHER TO COME OVER TO CHECK IF HE HAD QUESTIONS?" Each said no! "WHY NOT??" None responded..... So the sales manager personally worked with me on the car, and gave me a $500 gift certificate to use at their gift shop, and Dad got his car at $5000 below MSRP. :) Fully Loaded 740iL. That is my story. Thanks for listening - Have good days! :) (yea yea, its like 7:55am and I am on a coffee rush!!!!!!!
