Well the W220 does indeed look better, but the W221 interior is something i like, although it assembles the 7 series. its quite high tech .
i have a W220 . and i think i will use it for another 3-4 years and change it when W221 facelift is out .. cars in malaysia are expensive and i g uess i got to buy a reconditioned one by then . taxes here are 150%+300% for new car > 3000cc ...
I like the outside but dislike the interior, it's too plain and I despise plain interiors. I think the electronic column shift is out of place on a sport sedan of this caliber and belongs on granny cars. I also do not like the i-drive and according to a new article from Automobile Magazine, they got to try one out and it's just as tedious and hard to use as the original 7-series i-drive [:(]
I also personally think the interior is lacking in wood trim and is inferior to the classy interior design of the CLS.
I always thought that MB chickened out with the W220.
Having got so much flak for the W140 it lost it`s nerve and served up a bland and completely uninspiring design with the W220.
It looks like a stretched Vauxhall Omega and has no road presence at all. In fact it`s totally invisible on the road. Internally it`s an ergonomic disaster and as far as materials quality is concerned it is simply second class compared to it`s predecessor.
From the pre-launch release photographs the new W221 looks like a return to form and is probably what the W220 should have looked like had MB not lost it`s bottle.
In short I think the W221 is much more impressive than the the W220 but recognise that many will totally disagree with the foregoing.
