But since almost every other wannabee luxerycarmaker has been doing that with Mercedes-Benz for the last 20 years, and quite successfull (at least in the US if A), maybe MB can get away with is as well.
In the Asian market as well in Europe inital market feedback is very good and I must say I like the exteriour quite good and with AMG bodykit it is a killer!

You make the point / miss the point all at the same time.
Make the point; Mereceds has been the benchmark standard that others have strived to achieve for years.
Miss the point; WHY should Mercedes even be trying to "get away with it." They're not supposed to be trying to copy anyone, period.[?]

exactly... i think being that mercedes has always had thier own thing going on, by copying something else they are almost degrading the name a bit.. besides... i like the old S interior wayyyy more... especially the amg and 600...
Hey, I went in to my local Mercedes dealer Saturday and they said the W221 was coming out 2007. Does that sound right? They also said the SL's are safe until 2009...wonder what those'll look like!
did it occur to anyone that maybe they're not copying anyone, and thats just how the engineer wanted his masterpiece to look?
You mean in the highly competitive auto industry, high-end luxury car division, flag ship sedan segment, between the two marquee archrivals? [8]
Ummmnnn... NO. I don't think it'll occur to anyone to buy that.
I remember articals in the 80's where Mazda SWORE that hey were just folling the wind tunnel when they designed those years RX-7s. Of COOOOOOURSE they weren't trying to look like a poor mans Porsche 911.[:I][;)]
I think what I dislike most is how much I love the low-slung dash and the awesome frontal visibility on my current S-Class. They lose that entirely by putting the display screen up there on top.
The latest MotorTrend issue states that the display had to be moved higher to comply with new US regs that state that the screen can't be more than 30 degrees out of the driver's field of view. Blame it on us Yanks! [^]

I'm selling my 2001 S500 in favor of the new ML500 -- after seeing these pics, I'm VERY happy to have gone with the ML.
I don't know Boys and Girls, the more I go back and look at those pictures the more I like. Of course nothing will be decided until I get behind the wheel.
