[}:)]From what I recall this is the same reaction to the 140 when it was first released in '92. The dealer had a white one on the floor and a prospective customer said that it looked like a refrigerator with wheels. However it has grown on people over the years.
Some people just don't cope well with change; be it good or bad.
I absolutely agree. The excuses for MB have run out. D-Day is finally here for Benz. If they can't fix it in the very first year in their flagship this time, it will be the end for them as a true world class luxury carmaker. No more excuses, no more finger pointing.
The interior is too cheap looking and plasticky, that too run-of-hte-mill plastic. Unfortunately, Somehow, I'd bet this car will have it's share of reliability issues and quality problems. Sadly, It has become ingrained into the Benz culture, just like arrogance and denial.

Well, I can't vote on it because I don't absolutely hate or love it. The exterior is strongest feature about this car- in my opinion. The interior, from the single photo posted looks alarmingly like my Honda mini-van below the wood trim. In other words- too much plastic. As far as quality goes, I would bet that it's much better given the FACT that this is MB's last chance at maintaining a certain prestige factor over it's competitors.
Just being curious, why Mercedes-Benz introduces next S-Class so soon?
I mean, former S-Class (W140) was on the market around 7 years (from 1992 to 1999), and SE / SEL Class was on the market over 10 years (from 1981 to 1991).
If that sleek one in the picture being introduced to the market in 2006, doest that mean current model (W220) has been on the market only for 5 years?

You know you're German if:
You went to school in a Gymnasium
You check your shoes for candy on December 6
You have real candles on your Christmas tree
You know a Frankfurter is a person not a hotdog
Schnitzel with noodles is your favorite meal, not a song in a cheesy musical!
You drive the Autobahn in a Mercedes-Benz at the speed of sound!
Hi
I wouldn't say I love it or hate it. I like some parts , and dislike others( BUTT!! UGHLY!!)[:P]
I have seen other pics , and the inside looked nice( but BMW is still there in it ,and I miss the tranny lever).
We all have to get used to the new look , and there will be a lot of discussion on it I guess,
BUT! MB had to solve the quality problems or will be in big trouble.I travel a lot to Germany and German people are complaining a lot on MB quality.
People who are MB customers for the last 25 year are considering buying VW , AUDI ...
The outside looks a bit Ford Focus + Mondeo and a bit of Maybach.
You also have to look at the picture of the AMG version of the car, on the w221 Forum , and that car looks a lot better!!
The Body Kit makes a lot of difference![:O]
I guess a lot of buyer will order the AMG kit.
I have read the parameters of the car in a german magazine , and I have found 3 interesting measurements:
The front headroom is 961mm and the rear is 955 mm.
So the front is almost as much as in the w140 (965mm and as I'm 6'6" I need this height) ,but the rear is much less ( 978mm).
IMO the rear is not enough for such big car.
The lenght of the LWB version is 5206mm , so the w140 is still the longer.[:D] ( although just 7mm longer)
Long live the W140!
I will keep it as long as I could.[;)]

I agree with most here--I would have to see it in person. From the pitures it looks like MB is chasing
the whole BMW retro thing. Not very appealing.
It is sad, as I have always looked at MB as an innovator not a car company who follows the trends--they set them. I guess times change.
I have owned a 1989 560sel which I still miss..and i always will. When i traded it in(2004) it had around 198k miles and it was still one of the most reliable vehicles I have ever driven. I traded it for a 1999 S320 long which I am very happy with and love the car. I guess just like the 126 vs 140, the beauty is in thee eye of the beholder.
I also see some urgency in releasing this car so soon. 126 was produced for about 10 years, the 140 for about 7 and the 220 was only 5---maybe the technology is changing quicker these days.
All I know is the mb will never build a car as solid as the 126 or a robust as the 140. The 126 was basic, reliable and it had a soul. The 140 just screams MB and it has a soul as well. The new ones--well they are just cars---no longer the icons of the automotive industry.
Hello, You have good experience with Lexus cars and an expert at it. What are better year models for the early 1990s? Approximate price ranges please too. Thanks in advance.
