Mercedes Benz recently announced the new S65 AMG and CL65 AMG. Both are propelled by a twin-turbocharged , 5,980-cc V-12 making an amazing 612 hp and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. The power peak of this engine equals that of the street version 6.9-liter CLK-GTR.

Although weighing about 4,800 lb, the most powerful Mercedes-Benz production cars ever can hit 100 km/hr (62 mph) in just 4.4 sec. Test cars have reached at least 185 mph, though production models are governed to 155 mph. Naturally, AMG’s specially upgraded version of ESP, Active body control, ASR, Brake Assist, and suspension and powertrain systems are installed plus 15-inch composite disc brakes with eight-piston calipers up front and four-piston units in the rear. Both cars use the AMG SpeedShift five-speed automatic transmission and have 19-inch alloy wheels, 8.5 and 9.5 inches wide, with Z-rated 245/40 tires at the front and 275/35’s at the rear. Besides the usual luxury features, standard equipment on the S65 AMG include the award-winning PRE-SAFE occupant protection system, which recognizes a potential accident and prepares the car for impact.

Both models go on sale in Europe in December, and the cars are expected to be sold in the U.S., though the timetable and prices have yet to be announced.
