My understanding was that the new engine wouldnt come in until the 2003 model year... 
 
I could be wrong though. 
 
They are however coming out with an S63 AMG, though its doubtful it will ever reach the US.

S63 has been out for a few years. Just not to the US market. Probably never make it there either

Only that it will have 500 hp. The broader exhaust pipes of the S-Class and the SL allow the engine to develop 500 hp in the 2003 setup. Only the E55 will be limited to 476 horsepowers. One recommendation: Also look at the 2003 S600 with the 500 hp Maybach engine.

the new
S55
S600
CL55
CL600

will all have 496 BHP (US version, and 500BHP European version). I don't think it will be limited or anything.
They will all go from 0-60 in less then 5 sec.
The E55 will get 475 and no more.
why ?
because lighter and more aerodynamical then the SL it would out-perform it.
