Unusual door unlocking problem ?

My 2000 W220 has what seems to be an unusual door unlocking problem:-
Neither of the remotes will unlock the (RHS) driver's door with a single press but a second press unlocks all the other doors except the driver's door so I need to use the emergency key to open it.
The outside door handle won't work until I use the emergency key but works properly once the car's unlocked.
The remotes lock all doors properly when leaving the car.
The car does not have the soft close feature which seems to cause most of this sort of problem and I can't find anything else about it anywhere so really would appreciate any suggestions.

Hi,

The reason 2 presses opens all other doors is because that is an option your C/L can be set to, to prevent Car Jacking, first press should only open Drivers Door, with your current settings, see Drivers Handbook .

So, I suspect the problem is within your Drivers Door Lock or Actuator Mechanism.
SDS will have a series of tests, and actuations that will speed up the fault location process

HTH,

Cheers Dave

Thanks for this very fast reply Dave.
I will be seeing my indie later this week as he can do the SDS tests you mention but had noticed a reference to the possibility of a loose Bowden cable from the actuator being a reason for the problem.
I'm not keen to remove the door panel to check this possibility only to find it was not the problem and have to put the panel back in to get to the Indy where it will have to be taken out again so would appreciate your thoughts on whether it is worth a try or not.
Thanks again,
Ben.

Hi,

Well that is a possibility, although I don't remember a bowden cable being involved in the actual locking / unlocking, the only bowden cable I can think of is from the Interior Door Pull to the Latch Mechanism

But you don't have to put the panel back on to drive the car, simply pull on the hook on the cable to open the Door

HTH

Cheers Dave

Thanks Dave, I imagine you are correct about the cable so will take the panel off and let you know how it all ends up.

I'm not familiar with the 2000, but on my 2003 S430, the pneumatic actuator that you might see on the bottom of the lock mechanism will be for soft-closing (if you have it).

The pneumatic actuator for lock/unlock was buried deep inside the mechanism, and I never found a way to disassemble the lock mechanism.

Thanks for this Wally. It should help when I get the panel off the door.
