Door lock/unlock

Hi,
I'm new to the site and this is my first post, I live in Sunderland, UK.
My car is S320 CDI AUTO. 2002.
Key fob does not open of close doors or open boot/trunk. The fob is working fine, the car lights flash when I press the open or close buttons but the car door buttons will not move.
The central locking button on the fascia will not work either.
Thanks in anticipation,
Dave (AlbanyJon)

Hello and welcome to the site. Sounds like maybe a problem with your PSE. Am I understanding correctly that the doors will not lock/unlock remotely, but you can open the doors with the physical key? Either way, have a look at this link:

I'm not familiar with the RHD cars, so you need to remember that sometimes things differ from our LHD cars...

The first thing to do is to find the floor illumination light that is located (LHD) behind the right rear passenger's heels. Pull the top of the entire light fixture out, lift up and move the fixture aside. There is no need to unplug it.

Locate the yellow 20-Amp fuse on the more-central end of the fuse row, and pull it out. Check to see if the fuse has failed. Reinstall a good 20-Amp fuse.

Check the door locks and see if they now function. If they do, use the car normally. If the pneumatic system soon fails again, time to do more testing.

If nothing functions, time to test the PSE (Pneumatic System Equipment) pump. It is located (LHD) in the left forward corner of the boot, behind the trim panels.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the forum

There is myself and another Dave on here from UK, I'm NW Scotland, and he's a bit nearer you Lanarkshire ish I think :wink

Anyway, these cars are great, but a PSE is not cheap, even s/h, so I'm going to give you the same advice I give everyone, get it read on SDS (Star Diagnostic System)first, and tested through the menu's within Xentry, because it may turn out to be another problem, cheaper part :wink

Parts bills can quickly escalate if you just stab at replacing components :wink

If you like the car, you might want to consider buying a Clone SDS, they are worth their weight in gold and really do save time and money when working on these cars.

HTH,

Cheers Dave

A big thanks to you all for your advice, I now know more about PSE than I need. All very useful.
Much to my embarrassment the problem was a blown fuse, I missed it the first time I looked. It was just going to cost me a fortune to fix at a local Merc specialist when I decided to check the fuses one more time...thank the stars I did.

Hi,

Glad you got it fixed cheaply :wink.........

Now, here's the rub........

If you had SDS, 15 minutes or less would have told you "PSE Pump No Communication" so, then you click on the fault and the first thing it would have said was "Check Fuse number blah blah" !! If you click on that it would tell you exactly where to find it, probably with picture etc :wink

I would not work on Mercedes without one :wink

Cheers Dave
