Thanks Skylaw. I'm a newbie and finding my way around the site. Lots of good stuff where you pointed me. Had done a general search but nothing came up. Will give it a go and post results.
And thank you. I pointed out the route to it, instead of just providing the direct link, so that as a new member you could explore some of the resources that will save you time and money during your ownership.
Took longer than I thought, maybe 20 mins per side, probably just because I'm a newbie. Didn't want to take off the door panel so made 2 cuts at the bottom of the seal to slide over the 2 harness connections as others have referenced. Also would second the recommendation to have a stand to hold the mirror after removal. That way you have two hands to work with the seal and the hanging mirror won't damage the paint. The main mirror harness has about 4" of slack.
Spoke too soon. Lost the mirror turn signals on both L & R. Got the error message a day after reinstall. Mirrors have full motion and front & rear turn signals work. Will have to pull housings off again & see if I can find the issue.
Final post. Be careful, I ruined the internal connections on both side mirrors when reinserting the housing. Result is directional lights don't work and a continuous error code that the mirror light bulbs are defective. The mirror motors are OK so I have adjustment capability. Front & rear turn signals are OK. Replacement is complete housing at $400 plus so I will live w/o. In hindsight I should not have tried to do this myself.
Not true, SDbob. You have no idea how much I have broken in the process of fixing something else. Just take it as a lesson and give something else a shot next time something needs doing. Trust me, you'll be more careful or what ever you need to be next time around.
I too have replaced my side view mirror seals. I did this recently in conjunction with having the door panels off to install a new driver's side door lock actuator, tint protector and door handle LED's. I think you'll find that your W220 can be a joy to service and repair once you learn some of it's quirks. Take advantage of the wealth of information on this forum through reading and research and then more reading, preferably before asking a question as much has been covered. Did I mention reading? Lotta good folks here. We'll be glad to help out as much as we can. Welcome to the forum.
