I purchased a set of new brake rotors and brake pads with wear sensors. My car is a 2000 S430. I just noticed that the website says they are for a 2003. So I'm wondering Wil these fit?
You can do an Amazon or AutohausAZ search for your brand and car year to see if what you bought will fit. Don't necessarily have to go through the website that you bought from.
By coincidence, I am doing rear pads and rotors on our 2002 S430 today. Zimmerman and Akebono Euro.
I just upgraded the brakes on my 2003 S430 by going back to 2000 S430 brakes. Vented rotors, larger rotors, larger calipers. You might not like the 2003 rotors...
Completed the replacement of rear rotors and pads on our 2002 S430 yesterday. The rear rotors were original, and finally at minimum serviceable thickness. They were rusted to the hub, so 15 min soak after spray with PB Blaster followed by 3 lb sledge 'persuader' on the INNER part of the hub popped them off. (Front rotors are drilled and vented, rear rotors are vented only.)
Cleverly, I thought I would reuse the old brake pad wear sensor even though the pad liner light lit up on the dash. No go - once the metal lead is exposed they are toast. Usually I replace the pads prior to the light - missed it this time. $10 new one at Autozone, and this morning I'll pull a tire to refit.
Yes. The change happened late in 2002, and there are actually a couple weeks in there with unique parts, but that isn't a big deal.
The 2003 rear rotors are skinny and solid, the earlier cars are thicker and vented. The rear calipers on the 2003 are cheap-ass single piston sliders, the earlier cars are dual piston fixed. The brakes are interchangeable with no problems at all, if you change everything. Simple bolt-on job.
IIRC, the front brakes don't differ quite so much, but they do differ, with the earlier cars being beefier. They, too, are interchangeable.
I suppose that MB decided that we don't drive our cars hard enough to need good brakes. They also deleted the left-side pad wear sensors.
This is another case where the eBay sellers will not tell you the entire truth...
Now you tell us lol...Had a set of AMG calipers in great condition from an S600 but everyone told me that they would not be interchangeable with mine so I sold them. Should have tried them on first
I'm certain that my 2005 S600 brakes are opposing piston calipers. Two piston rear. Four piston front. I suspect that the S55 has the better calipers as well. The S65 AMG has completely different brakes.
You stand correct Astro. They were two piston rear and four piston front and my S500 is 4matic which kinda made it challenging because I was told other parts needed to be changed as well to make them work. Anyhow, I should have just tried them on just so I knew for sure but....
