So I have decided to bite the bullet and buy a Multiplexer, Now I am torn between the Autel DS708 or a Laptop C4 multiplexer. I'm doing this so I can help out other members in my area who need help because $190 a hour from the dealer is BS just to hook up. I'm looking to be able to access all systems and do like programming for TCU swaps etc. ( on a site note where would be a good place to learn to do this, online site would be great.).

Is $20 in house for enhanced scan fair and $40 for programming or coming to you to scan.

So what's my best option, or is there something better I should get?

I was interested in that but it seems limited on the programming aspect. also the $2100 in extra fees to cover all cars is a bit steep. and then the yearly fee....and then all the connectors and adapters etc etc.

Really? You only have to pay $66 on top of the $70 to do Mercs, that's $136. The multiplexer only does Mercs so no need to buy software for all the other makes.

Read the fine print, also the AUTEL does all cars. but here

"X431 iDiag for Android Software Price List:

Unit car model: 66USD

Asian car software package(including 42 car models): 699USD

European and USA car software package(including 31 car models): 799USD

Let's not start a great debate over this, I said the multiplexer not the autel only does mercs. The unit car price is meant to be manufacturer i.e. mercs is 66USD, I only want 2 manufacturers MB and Renault. Are you running a business that requires you to be able to use it on all of them or DIY as I plan to? The Autel you mention is over a Grand to buy, not really DIY stuff. You should have also noted I started by saying good on you, it is great you are offering to help other when you get which ever one you do. Then stated I wanted to try the X431, you don't want too all well and good, I won't be needing the adapters or anything else so for me it is a cheap option. I will not be in a hurry to do so, but when I do I'll be happy to report on it here for anyone that is interested. And yes I will let you know the cost as well as the usefulness of it.

If you only want to do MB then the C4 unit is perfect but when it comes to programming it is now becoming more limited as the C4 is used by the dealers and they have to go online to complete programming processes, you will not be allowed an online connection with the plant in Germany.

I meant C4 and I do not know how your laws relate to German build cars. C3 uses the multiplexer and cables but C4 is the Wifi version, ie no cable between the plexer and the PC.

MB are not the only ones doing this now, BMW and Porsche are looking at and to a certain extent using dealer to factory communication systems thus cutting us indies and specialists out, or so they think. We use a company in UK for BMW programming, we connect to the net and upload the particular program and then it is debited to our account, but once we have it we can use it on any BMW.

With Benz we get around this by paying a guy in the local dealer to give us the daily code for the internet connection, as and when we need it. C4 can do 99% but a few items are now controlled by the factory using the internet for which you need the code to get the internet connection with the factory and it is changed daily.

As far as I know there is no C5 yet.

I'm not looking at programming Eric, just the code reading and testing for now. I got a good indy near me with a MB master tech there all the time for anything like that.

P.s. Odin if you want to pay the money you can have the right mutliplexer and the access to do the work yourself, but it is well overpriced.

For anyone interested to know this is much more then a code reader, it allows adjustments as well (Level adjust of airmatic etc) as well as actuation testing and more. Anyone wanting a code reader this is great for that as well and I would say perfect for the DIYer. I have found and clear all the faults in memory (most were caused by me or blown light bulbs) and only one has returned. I will says that I think it is a great product and well worth my money. Odin once you have the it and pay for the Benz software you can use it on as many Benz as you like it is not a by car basis, but by manufacturer.

First off I have not fully tested it, but it does both fuel types. It has been designed for commercial use, you can't programme keys though you can rewrite the VIN to the EIS, allows full testing of systems as well as actuation of solenoids TCM. Can test the DCM's, AC, Command and more also you are able to set D2B ring present/Not present states etc.

Is the something in particular you would have me check with it for you.

p.s. it does model 107 through to 463 if you have the cables for the earlier models, I don't have a need for that so I didn't get them.

And some more.
Picture 3 is the EIS.
Picture 4 is the Actual values menu of EIS.
Picture 5 is the Control unit adaptions of EIS.

Very interested in this. So @pinkster, were you able to get some real world testing done with this tool? Have you been able to make any changes to the menu's you have listed? The real time part, does it show like the torque pro app does. I understand that the torque app is not a programmer, but does look easy to use for on the go 24/7 use for monitoring. I'm thinking of getting both tools depending on your answer here. Also, does it do abs? Thanks.

To add:
Launch 301180060 EasyDiag Diagnostic Tool for Android
That was what the software told me I could use. 36.00 Dollars US. It also states:

Read and clear OBDII Generic Codes with Live Data and Color Graphing
Complete coverage for ABS, SRS, Transmission and Engine*
Reads and clears codes on engine, transmission, ABS, and airbag*
Enhanced Live Data for ABS, SRS, Transmission and Engine*
Manufacturer downloads available for $66 per Manufacturer – Download just one manufacturer or all!

Looks like I may have answered my own questions....Maybe.
