Side marker lamp removal 2000 S430

Got a clarification question. On this car, to change the side marker bulbs in front of the front wheels, do you just pry the lens off the bumper, sticking the prying tool at the front part of the lens and pop it out? Then just unscrew and replace the bulb?

Can't think of the top my head right now but I believe you push from the front of the car towards the rear. Either way check your your Owners Manual, since it is there illustrated with pics.

The first video in this utube clip is the easiest way for a bulb change.

Second option is to remove the lower skirt, and reach up inside the bumper to push out the lens case - or change the bulb from below.

Thanx a lot. Do you have instructions or a video for removing front bumper on the w220? I have to replace a headlamp with a whole new one......

eagle9, I suggest you check the W220 S-Class Encyclopedia in the stickies at the top of this forum. The answers to your questions are there. And you don't have to remove the bumper to replace a headlight unit.

i DID skylaw, but im confused about what i read. here is the part i read:

" i can remove the headlamps without removing the bumper, but it's very tricky for you guys.

first you need to loosen the bumper:
*pull out the lower grill (just tug it out quickly)and remove the two bolts.
** remove the two bolts on the upper part of the bumper (you can see that one).
***remove two screws on both front wheel arch trim on the front part (the other screw is down there).
****inside you will see between the bumper edge and the fender is a long flat hollow clip that snugly fit between them.
now remove the screw which locks this lock, and pry it towards the inside and pull it backward. you can see that there is an open cut on the front part which serves as a hold.

pull the bumper slightly out just enough for you to remove the headlamps. you can remove the whole bumper too, it's more convenient since you will have good space. nothing holds it now after detaching the PTS (parktronic sensor) connector."

ok, in the part i highlighted, when he says LOWER GRILL, is this what he is talking about, the black mesh looking grill where my arrow is pointing to. i just pop that out?

IMHO - Removing the front bumper (or even loosening it) is a challenging task with the side bar clips. Don't need to remove or loosen the bumper for a headlight replacement.

The headlight has 3 attachment points: Two 8mm bolts and a hidden round head plug and socket on the outside edge to the fender. Remove the visible bolts, and then gently pull the headlamp up, forwards and towards the center of the car to pop loose the round head plug. Then pull the headlamp forward to disconnect wiring.

good info. is it that most people dont know to do it this way? my cadillac deville has a plug looking thing sticking out the back of it. when i changed my bulb, you have to remove the whole headlight assembly, and i remember pulling a plug (bulb shaped plug), out of a socket. must be a similar setup.
