I hope someone has a solution; I have never seen the problem described on the W220 forum, so have not seen a solution posted.

 

Yeah me neither. I tried searching here and a couple other forums + google, but no joy
I would bet there is a screw that needs tightening, but am not willing to use my w210 template for marking and drilling. I had to say three hail-Mary's when I drilled my e320 even after a German MBZ tech friend at the time assured me it was ok.

Personally I would remove the steering wheel and inspect the switch mechanism and housing first and look for a broken tab or loose screw or something before I attempted to randomly drill and screw into the column trim. It takes less than 10 minutes to pull the airbag and wheel off....

 

Oh yeah, I have a lot more experience working on the w210 than the w220 and the hole drilling was an accepted method of fixing the loose stalk!

 

I know this is an older posting, but I had this problem and found the problem to be quite simple to fix. There is a small access hole located on the lower portion of the steering column shroud. Using a 4mm allen key, I tighted it down and no problems!! This was on a 2000 S500. I could not get a good picture, but sniffing around google, I found the following video:

If you forward to 0:52, you can see what I'm talking about. Note that the steering wheel does not need to be removed to access this.
