Hi, Temperatures have dropped to -3 in the UK and since then I can now hear my pump, before it was silent.

Is this normal?

Also does the pump turn on/off during a journey?

Just tighten the anchoring bolts and make sure there is no leak in your system. Your pump should not be going bad if your air system has no leak. Rusting will cause your pump's anchoring bolts to the bumper to get loose and caused vibration. The springs attached to the bolts usually get rusted and broken, then your pump will be hanging without tension.

the pump has 6 outlets, 4 to struts and one to air tank, 4 plus 1 equals 5.

Where does the 6th go? does anyone have a diagram, does it matter which strut coinnects to each outlet? they are color coded but I cannot see any colours on the struts? Help me please, the car now looks like a funny car....

1 from pump to valve body.
4 from valve body to struts.
1 from valve body to tank. = 6

Sorry to bring up an old post but I replaced the covers under my car that are located between the bumper and engine and there is a long tube looking thing with a spring that is just hanging there, infact it kind of pushes on the plastic cover.. so when I installed the cover it gets pushed up by the cover.. any idea what this is and if it is supposed to hang there? It doesn't look like the unit talked about here.. it's a skinny looking thing.. thanks

Welcome to the forum. You have resurrected a really old thread!!

However, to answer your question, it appears that the studs are not sold separately, item 18 in picture. My guess is that the studs are either swagged or spot welded into proper position. You could remove the bracket and re-work it on the bench ie, install new stud or just simply buy a new bracket.

Your model S320 suggests European origin but in the US you can buy the whole bracket for about $57. (It helps if the forum members know where you are posting from, fill in the rest of your information for the most accurate responses,)

Good luck,

Bob

If you have the usual UK rust problems, you might want to remove the pump and bracket first, and see what you need. If the support pieces (36 - 40) are missing, or if one or both of the remaining studs are rusted and break, it might be easier to get the new bracket and some support pieces.

If you get lucky and find all of the parts hanging about, your friend should be able to repair the mount.

Take photos as you remove the compressor and mount - replacing everything can get complicated. It is like a three-d puzzle...
