NAV READ ERROR

I found this ancient post that seems to address my problem but not anything more recent for my year and problem. Maybe it's the weed from back in high school but I lost my way in the thread. Question is probably for DinoBenz, Vfraser if still around, Skylaw plus anyone who's joined in the past 5 years.

Like DinoBenz i have a 2000 s430 that gets a read error on the nav cds. I purchased the car in 2005 and it had no discs. I purchased discs in 2006 from dealer which get the error msg and never worked properly. My car was manufactured in 5/99, so which disc/disc # should I be looking for for the Southeast? I had thought the problem was in the player but now I hope that maybe I just have the wrong discs for my manf. date. they sold me the set released 1/05 and disc#9 is for the southeast with a BQ#6 46 0208. it doesn't work...none of them do...$300 gone. I could probably go back to the stealer with the question but they are the ones that sold me the wrong discs in the 1st place. Any help or direction is appreciated.

Unless your COMAND unit has been replaced, you have a "C" nav system. The latest "C" nav discs I am aware of are dated 02/04 (February 2004) and the part number is BQ 6 46 0191. They are in very short supply.

Discs released after Feb. '04 would be for the "D" nav system, and would not work in your car. I believe the disc set you have now is a "D" nav set - though I cannot open my favorite web page for verifying that.

If the dealer won't do you justice for selling the wrong part (they should have checked your VIN or door plate to verify when your car was made; the telematics changeover between October/November '99 for the '00 W220 is well known to dealer parts departments), you might recoup some of the loss by selling either individual discs or the whole set at an attractive price.

Keep in mind that there have been several newer releases for the "D" nav set (the latest in early '09), but there could be some requests where folks don't want to spring for $300 or so for the newest one.
